Thanks, sorry, it might just be that I'm getting old. I was confused, but I get it now.
It was one heck of a way to help out a friend whose boat is 28-miles from mine by using an intermediary in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! I sure love Starlink! I have not gotten mine set up on Papillon yet, but it is a huge addition to the motorhome.

Hi all. Quick response. Boat is still floating. Damage to electrical systems not sure of the extent. Batteries submerged, hot leads severed. Marina water up 8-9 inches above floor boards. Was able to pump water out. Lots to clean up and trash to dump. Then I’ll start to assess the electrical. Engine to be examined tomorrow 10AM. What a hiccup.

Now back to our regular programming.
Will Dave head to Azores or forge ahead to A Coruña, Spain. Spain is approximately 1300nm. The Azores lie SSE about 700nm, and then it would be 900nm to get to Portugal. Both routes look possible as he will be some 400nm from the big storm in the Atlantic on Tuesday/Wednesday if he can maintain an average of 5knots.
Stay tuned. .

Sea state is heavy. We are running under reefed main and foresails. We do seem to be maintaining 5 to 6 knots despite the current wave conditions. Lots of green water over the bow. Thanks to the design of this boat, the cockpit is still dry. Gabriel and I were out eating watermelon in the cockpit as it's too messy inside the cabin.

We are trying to head where direcred but with the winds and currents, well, we are simply doing our best. Current position 45 32.607N 39 41.681W

John, I am really sorry to hear about your boat. Good grief, you've had more than your share of difficulties in getting her back in order!

Get a product called "Salt away" wash everything inside with it. You can get it with a spray adaptor for your hose that meters out the correct ratio as you spray. It will take away all the salt residue. You need to do that as the residual salt will just keep attracting moisture and continue to cause corrosion problems.

Then I recommend getting Boeshield T9 and spray all your electrical terminals etc with it. You may be able to salvage more than you think. Best of luck.

I had same issues when my boat was flooded with Salt water in Hurricane Zeta.
John called me and I gave his my best advice on remediating his boat.

He has a big mess on his hands, so he urged me to take the lead on the Issue facing you @dLj

I am checking your weather and currents for next 2 days and will report back here.

John says its the Weather.

With those Damn Currents in front and the new LOW at your back.

Maximize your Boats speed between Due East and Due South for next 24 hours.

Yes and that one is big!
If I'm reading Windy right, you're looking at the arrival of the thunderstorms around midnight Monday (at 200-250nm SE of present position), lasting through sunrise. Winds SW25G38, sea state 10', deteriorating to 12-15' thru Wednesday.

We just downloaded the most recent predict wind maps. Looking at the sea state we may deploy our drogue and ride out the worst of the waves. Where it looks like we've been able, and will be able to get to, we may do that tomorrow evening depending upon the actual sea state. 4 meter average waves 8 seconds apart sound pretty steep to me

As decision time approaches, I am curious about the advantages and disadvantages of the drogue vs heaving to. If you deploy the drogue, wont you have to run with the wind/waves? When the wind shifts and the seas become more confused how does that affect the drogue? Do you feel testing how the boat behaves hove-to in your current conditions would be worthwhile?

In emails, Dave preferred the drogue to spinning like in a Whirlpool.
They have made good speed and maybe less wave heights.
The next 24 hour speed will tell them.
