While n

While nice and pretty, it doesn’t say “I’m telling you where a fire extinguisher is located”. It’s pretty and brass… it should be red and attention getting. If you are more worried about looks than safety, then I will never sail with you. I will wave from the dock and pray to Neptune that you return safely.

Yes I take fire safety seriously. Chalk it up to my Navy training or be being arrogant, or what have you IDC.
Let's see a picture of your boat's fire extinguishers, and the placards marking their locations.

As a matter of fact, let's see pics of ANY BOAT on here with proper fire extinguishers and placards marking their locations! I've been on many, many private vessels, and have looked at innumerable boats on yachtworld, and I think I can safely say that I've never seen placards marking fire extinguisher locations.

I take fire seriously. I have more than double the required extinguishers, larger than required, in addition to a fixed, automatic and manual engine compartment extinguisher system (Fireboy-Xintex). (Three times 3A: 40 B:C and one 1A: 10 B:C, all tagged and 2017 year of manufacture.) The extinguishers are in strategic locations, to allow fighting one's way out, and fighting one's way in, depending on the circumstances. In addition, I installed a cockpit locker fresh water sill cock with a hose always attached and a fire-fighting appropriate nozzle.

I would be money that I'm better prepared in this regard than 99% of the boats in my marina.

my fire extinguisher on Lilly is in plain sight, and already larger than required for the size of vessel, and within the 12 year requirement.

As for the ones on Luna, they are what I was referring to by the owner tried. I have not yet gotten Luna to the point where I can mount safety equipment, she is a year or more away from being untied from the pier. I do have extinguishers onboard, just not in the locations I want. There is one I am going to most likely keep in place is this one next to the stove.

I will be keeping one in the lazzarette and yes I will have a reflective red and white FireExtinguisher label easy for all to see.

That's pretty good. I'm not going to mount mine like that, though. They are already in good spots, I just might get those brass plaques made, and also ones for where the flares are stored, and where the fuel and propane shut-offs and life jackets are. My boat is like furniture below, all teak - I'm told 1,500 pieces of teak, in total. Almost no exposed fiberglass. Also, despite it being a 38' boat with a 12' beam, there is almost nowhere you could mount them in plain sight where you wouldn't be banging into them moving around.

People on board always get a safety briefing, and once they see the plaque - people notice and read plaques - they will know where things are.

Have you placarded your fuel and propane shutoffs, too? Life jacket location?

On Lilly life jackets are always worn outside, she is only 25’ and not very wide. Fun to sail but not stable enough for no vest wearing. On Luna, I’m still in the remove old owners junk stage. So far 5 large garbage bags, some carpet, an old refrigerator and many pieces of rotten stuff have come out, I still have at least one more large trash bag, but most likely 2 to go before I can start scrubbing. I will be putting my life jackets in a easy to get to location, but I have not yet decided where that will be. Hell I’m still finding stuff daily about my boat. I still haven’t found the propane storage locations yet… I didn’t get the luxury of getting a tour from the previous owner. He passed away in 07 and the boat has been sitting in a marina since.

Wow, good luck with that. C30's are great boats. I had a C36, which was a great family cruiser.

That's a long time for a boat to sit, 15 years. I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks… I am a sucker for a hard luck case. I actually enjoy fixing things up so this is right up my alley. Lilly was in bad shape when she came home, but it good now, tho not as bad as Luna. My Bayliner is a case of rot but so long as the wood between the inner and outer hull isn’t rotted I will put new floors and stringers in her and go water skiing. I do this with cars and trucks too. My Avalanche came to me with 6 neutrals and some other minor issues, and now it’s my daily driver. My son’s truck was much the same, bad suspension and some interior issues, now he is a very happy 16yr old with a cool truck.

Now that's funny, right there! :)

Best to you. I have a few bins of marine hardware and lots of stainless steel fasteners, let me know if you need anything.
