You wanna live a dream you have to be ready to jump.NOTHING LIKE BUYING A BOAT UNSEEN FOR $1... In a different state on a different ocean.
let us know how it goes.
Just sold my rifle and my .45 now just my computer and car left. I have 1600 right now. Minus the cost of the trip. So 1200. Sell the computer that's another 700. Car another 2k. So that gives me 3900You wanna live a dream you have to be ready to jump.
Like the old saying: damn the torpedoes and give um hell!!!!
Trust me. You do not want an outboard auxiliary for what you think you are planning to do off CA.I agree. Checking cost of a train ticket. Just left owner a vm.
True. I plan to remedy that problem asap. I have a job lined up in the area so I can make enough to afford the workTrust me. You do not want an outboard auxiliary for what you think you are planning to do.
Cost of a free boat lolTrue. I plan to remedy that problem asap. I have a job lined up in the area so I can make enough to afford the work
Son. You are chasing your tail. BTW. There are mostly grown-ups in here.True. I plan to remedy that problem asap. I have a job lined up in the area so I can make enough to afford the work
I am aswell. 34 isnt young. True to some it is. But I intend to live my dream before it is to late. If I fail then I will get up and keep trying. That is life. You cant always winSon. You are chasing your tail. There are mostly grown-ups in here.
Maybe. But at least when I die I can look back and say that I did it my way. And never let go of my dreams. No matter the cost.Yours are escapist kid’s “dreams,“ common in the 70’s. True dreams are fine; but what you have been spouting are ill-considered fantasies. When you do grow up, you’ll recognize the difference.
And I will bring Jimmy buffett along. LolDid what?
Consult your first post for a fantasy statement: “Just a nice casual trip down the cost [sic].“ Don’t forget your Jimmy Buffett tunes.
I've decided just to try for a boat in the size I want. Save time instead of fixing 2 boats. I am currently winning the bid for the cal cruiser 36@Glsawyer I read through this thread, it looks like you are determined to have an adventure one way or another. I was divorced at 35 and if I didn't have kids I may have gone the same way.
I had a C&C 27 MKII and it looks like the Newport 27 has the same hull, keel and rudder design but with a different deck. I can tell you the boat sails very well for a 50 year old design, is very easy to sail single handed and can certainly stand up in a blow. I beat into 50 knots with just a double reefed main and the boat behaved very well, I felt comfortable the whole time - BUT - this was in protected water, the waves were not much more than 6 feet.
I did experience a knock down once, spreaders in the water, during a race when a squall blew up and we didn't get the spinnaker down in time. The crew was more shaken than the boat. My main concern with sailing in open water on that boat would be ensuring the hatches were water tight. The C&C 27 has a high bridge deck, I'm not sure the Newport does. If the cockpit filled in the C&C, no big deal, it's not that big and it will drain. I would improve the gasketing on the cockpit hatches, but other than that it is sound.
People have sailed across oceans in boats some here would consider completely inadequate. Dave and Jaja Martin sailed around the world in a Cal 25 (modified by Dave). In one story on them I remember a quote "The only major equipment failure we had was birth control." They had 3 kids by the time they sailed back to the US. https://setsail.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/itl_bio.pdf
If the Camper and Nicholson doesn't work out, the Newport might be OK however a free boat is free for a reason; the condition of an old boat could make all the difference between an adventure and a disaster.
