IMGP0224.jpg Just for you John! An unspoiled anchorage in Dusky Cove. No pub however, but we have beer in the fridge.

I like it Michael.
Dusky Cove now on the list.
So pleased you can forage ahead and scout out the good spots.
We shall meet on your Island of Saturna and speak of these experiences as I wander north.

New chart 2018. It is in fathoms until I get down to the bay's say 1:4000 scale then it switches to meters.
That threw me off the first time I entered Sidney Marina.

For example... What is 38 meters.
I draw 1.54 meters.

I'll bet it did! It's only been 40 odd years since we went metric. Can't expect change overnight. It drives me crazy in the weather reports to have automated wave heights in metres and observed wave heights in feet. It's just to confuse us old duffers.

I use ISailor bought the West Coast chart and tidal flow option. Happy with it so far but with minimal use.

Jason. iSailor works pretty well for local sailing. I have it on my iPad and iPhone. I've used it to keep myself in the middle of the channel running the Swinomish ditch. I just do not like it to plan a trip of any distance.

The Coastal Explorer costs more money but you get so many features. Quick to develop a route. You can find interesting places along the way. All the information tides, currents, cautions concerning shoals or danger are on the maps. The maps are NOAA or Canadian charts. Updated when ever you have an internet connection. My AIS is displayed onto the charts. Sure it is PC based and my laptop is not water resistant, but if you want solid navigational info it is hard to beat.

The reviews for AC in the app store are not good. Last time I looked at it (before Garmin took it over), it seemed pretty East Coast centric
It's free. Check it for yourself. I've found way more information than you can find in any guidebook and it's all dated so you know how current it is. You can work online or download it for where there is no internet.

I just did. What a waste. Not much of anything for comments that aren't better covered by Waggoners. At least in Canada.
Besides, as I've read on other forums, primarily cruisersforum, once Garmin took over, they messed up the graphics big time. Old days the chart took up 90% of the screen. Now it's only on the right side. I didn't find an easy way to get rid of the panes on the left. Might be there, but if it isn't easy to see how to do it...??? Plus it doesn't include the Canadian charts. Doh!
Download MX Mariner on your Android then load Active Captain on top of it. Or on your I phone or iPad try Sea Air USA it works about the same.

I heartily disagree with the thought that travel guides have more info. I've been using this for several years and found nothing even close. Because it's crowd sourced no company can compare with the available information.

Stu now needs the depths in metres!
Thanks, Michael. We'll just have to explain the depths in HPs to John. (HP = hockey puck).

John, there's this thang called the Toronto Blue Jays, currently in third place in the AL East (dat's baseball). I know the Mariners are closer geographically, but we don't get all their games on TV.

Ken, I don’t find Sea Air USA or anything close on Apple App store...

Update..I have a Garmin Blue Chart loaded on my ipad. I don’t ever use it as I use Navionics as my Raymarine plotter has Navionics. I downloaded it as a secondary ipad chart. So, I opened it up and I have to admit..There are a lot of info sources which I’m guessing is AC. A lot more than there used to be. There is nothing that says it is. I won’t say it’s better than Waggoners but certainly a compliment.
Edit: the chart says I’m logged in. However, not logged on to AC. Tried to log in, create acct, etc. always says content not available as it has moved or not available or...This is where my patience with electronics runs out..

Sorry It's SEAiq USA
Now I'm not sure it will work. I can't seem to update Active Captain data (last updated in May).
Some folks have complained that it quit working once Garmin took it over. I've had no issue until now.
