Will, from a marketing perspective you have a challenge. The aversion of popular places is counter to finding individuals willing to finance your interest in art as an income source. Only dead artists are the ones who are financially successful in the absense of people willing to support the arts..
Perhaps you will need a gallery in a populous location willing to show and sell your creations.
JS,
I am not sure what prompted the reference to my art career came, but I appreciate your thinking about me, that way. Unfortunately for me, I am not that aggressive or motivated for financial success that I can honestly expect to achieve much more than a subsistence living in my pursuits as an artist. I would love to be wildly successful, just not that much. In my opinion, I charge a lot of money for my art but it still only works out to something a carpenter would earn on a local construction site. It is as much as I think I can justify and I marvel at the prices I see on artwork while also understanding that these artists are not making much money on their actual art. It is like a friend of my mother's once told me when I asked her how much one of her quilts would cost. She said, they cost to much to sell so she only gives them away. Since my wife and I are in the middle of changing our lives around completely, we are starting a homestead farming operation and we just closed on the house next door and are spending almost every waking moment getting it ready for listing on AirBnB. My wife has several pursuits involving gardening and painting chicken signs
https://www.facebook.com/earthshakingcreations/ . They will probably fly out of our house like hotcakes (hopefully).
We are trying to publish a Website but we don't have enough content yet.
Anyway, I love where I live and my goal is to survive doing what I love to do. There are lots and lots of other places I would be happy to live, but I am here and content.
Cities have their appeal and I visit them, DC and Montreal are two of my favorites, but not to live in. I've done that. If offered the opportunity to show in a more central gallery, I, of course, would. This is what I hope the Internet will do for me. So, when I get earthshakingcreations.com up and running, the SBO community will be among the first to know.
