Got a good look at the thermostat housing. Several of the bolts are hidden behind the fresh water pump, which is part of the front cover. I'm not going to pull that. I'll drill and tap a bigger size

got back to the boat yesterday - used a reverse twist drill bit - no luck spinning out the broken studs, but was able to drill & tap to 6mmx1 - with bolts on order. I brought the original alternator (that won't fit nice with new bracket) home to remove the pulley and put it on the new alternator - different shaft size and new alternator has a key - no keyway in pulley -- now I'm off to find a pulley.. Why are simple things so difficult??
John - I don't know about rum - except for Mojitos and Hot Buttered, more a fan of Gin & Tonics or good Scotch/Brandy. Hmmm reminds me - I need to get something over 21yr old on the boat for when friends come over.

As much as will fit on my C36 -- You do realize that the 21yr old would be an amber nectar contained in a corked bottle. I'll probably be back on the boat Wednesday to put in the alternator and start wiring up the regulator....

Well, since our merry little band of sailors holds its Skippers Night every Wednesday at Scuttlebutts, a very nice respite for you to join in the merriment. Please come and join us. Bob (scruffy looking) Barker (the real Bob Barker) is usually the first one there with the rest around 1645-1700 hours. John (jssailem) is also planning on joining us. Nice Les. Wow. You can see all of your engine and parts with lots of room to tighten or loose something. A lot easier to work on than mine. One of my friends calls it the Black Hole where mysterious events happen. And sometimes a few incantations which children are not allowed to hear.
