Yippeee, Peggy is back! Way back in 2000-2001 Peggy helped with my design of a complete replacement system. Now all these years later I have never had a plug-up, a bad valve, or any odor. Wish I could think of something humorous but you guys used it all up.

I can still see the post that I'm sure drove her away. Glad she's back!!!

The Admiral says that the fact that I still have a boat is entirely due to Peggy's insight and instruction without which if my dockmates had not sunk it the dark of night, she would have.

Must I buy expensive "marine head" toilet paper, or will the simple, inexpensive supermarket stuff do it? Ordinary Scott Tissue do it?
No need to pay extra for "marine/rv" TP...it's just cheap practically-dissolves-in-your-hand-when-it gets-wet repackaged with a 5x price mark up. There's a very simple test to find out whether any TP is suitable for use in a marine toilet: tear off a sheet and put it in mason jar full of water. Wait an hour or two, then shake the jar. If the water it milky and all you can see is 'snow,' it's ok...but if it's still an intact or mostly intact sheet, try another brand.

Thank you Peggie for helping us out so much with our head issues over the years. Your early retirement, er constipation, was cause for much consternation, but now we can all lax and enjoy your firm movements once again.

I seen TP that says it's 'made from recycled paper'. That just sounds gross. How do they recycle that old paper if it falls apart in water? ;)

This is not the whole story, but all papermaking involves dissolving fibers in water, then pressing the solution into sheets and removing the water.

I would think the same way they recycle exam gloves:yikes:

We never use toilet paper. I read somewhere that most of the "marine" toilet paper doesn't really dissolve and it can be found clinging to coral reefs. Don't want that!
We just keep a Walmart shopping bag in the head and put the "used" paper in it. We dispose of it along with the other trash. I don't know why, but much of our head odor seems to have gone away. ???

Here is a sad but true story...I'll make it short and not so sweet......many years ago our first sizeable sailboat was a Catalina 22
we purchased in Tulsa.....we were very excited. Got it back to Wichita and took it to the lake for it's first weekend on
Cheney Res. We ordered the 22 with a porti-potty...seemed easy enough to use.....first night out, I had to go to the bathroom sometime in the night and of course used the porta potty...All seems well... At the end of it's first weekend, I knew I need to empty the potty....so, I take the tank out of the boat, put it in the trunk and take it home to empty it.....I had bought the correct
paper and the chemicals in Tulsa...so thought that was it.....We live in a cute little area of Wichita, known as College Hill, and
I get the porti potty out of the trunk, go get my wife to watch me empty it in the gutter in front of the house...and I begin pouring...so proud of myself....all of a sudden, I see little things coming out and a bunch of toilet paper all in the gutter...nothing was dissolved!!!! My only recourse was to get the garden hose and begin shooting the little gifts I'd given to myself down toward the corner with the water hose & spray nozzle....the total trip was about 250 feet ....there was more water and sewage in the gutter than you can believe....took about 25 minutes to get all the sludge/and everything to the corner - still
shooting water from my sidewalk and finally it turns the corner and heads west on a main Wichita through fare....I continued shooting hoping it would head down the hill to the catch basin, (about 3 blocks) then went quietly into the house....still excited that I bought the porta potty. ...I could go on, but you get the picture.....Sorry to bore you with my story....the toilet paper question started this. I apologize. Pat

Pat, why didn't you pour it into the toilet at home? Maybe no indoor plumbing? :)
