Yes. If your vang is shot and your boom droops, you will get to the point near the end of the hoist where you are pulling the mainsail up by its leech and not the luff. Thats HARD.I assume if I put the topping lift back on and raise the tail end of the boom the last 4 feet of raising the main will be a lot easier

Exact same thing happened to my friend in Chicago. He described what he found to them over the phone, they sent him the spring. My friend is not the handiest of folks, but is certainly willing. If he can do it...The rigid vang on my boat didn't hold the boom above the dodger so I removed and took it in to Garhauer, they said" Looks like it's missing a spring"
