Has anyone else done this replacement. Anything I need to watch out for? It looks pretty straight forward.

Check out the recent Fall Issue, Vol 33 No 3 Of the Mainsheet (page 19)

There have also been a number of people on this board that have made the upgrade.

Hope it helps...

I put one on my '96 Catalina 28 a couple months ago. I already had a fairly new shorepower cord, so I opted for the kit with the adapter for an existing cord. Attaching to the cord was easy enough, and attaching the receptacle to my boat was easy, too.

I'll take MaineSail's word that it gives a better and safer electrical contact. I also find that it's easy to plug in and unplug in use. And very secure. Glad I did it.

I converted my 41DS about a year ago. I bought the cord/ boat receptacle set and an additional cord plug to convert my old cord for a spare. Both easy installations and I don't worry about plug shorts/ fires anymore. Pricey but worth it- great product!

Did this procedure last year. Easy to install plug on shore power cord and pretty easy to
install box on stern. Great safety feature and easier to plug cord in. No need to find proper
slots for prongs. Straight in and out.

And - if you have an inverter be sure the 12 volt power back to it is also turned off. A lot of people don't know that when you have your inverter turned on you are back feeding your 110v input and finding out can be shocking,.... :yikes:

On a properly wired vessel back feeding shore AC should NEVER happen. If improperly wired then anything is possible..

Hi,
I'm thinking of converting to the Smart Plug system too. I only worry, whether my old "sockets" are of the same size, screw positions etc., as the new ones for the Smart Plug. Is this a standard socket and thus a hassle free and simple bolt-on solution, or will I have the chance to run in to cutting drilling and fiddling new cut outs?
My boat is a 1999 Hunter 410 and here is the pic of the actual sockets:

look in the archives for pics of others who have done the change out and that will give you a visual of how the finished product looks

As I recall (dangerous) think everything fit ok without drilling new holes, etc.

Update: Was simple to replace the socket as all the holes lined up and were the same size (it was designed that way). Equally simple was the plug replacement; only hard thing is sliding the cord through the strain relief (use lots of wet soap).
