Very, very nice work on the Siren! Love the idea for the "cutting-board" shims, too!
Thanks. The Siren is a nice break between tasks on the Mac 26D. All the finish stuff can be done after bed time for Squeaky too.
Instead of laying out the cash for the dollar store cutting boards.... I used margarine container lids on the one boat and they work fine. Just trim the lip off.

I got my nails done today... After all it is fathers day. The nail job was a mistake! I didn't mean to do it. Really! I also put another hole in my thumb. Another mistake...
It all started innocently enough. Jasmine fed me cup cakes for breakfast then I went to playing around with boat things.
I wasn't happy with the 6 coats of varnish I had put on the Siren rudder so I did 2 more. That filled the small indented lines.
I also got out the big tarp and an old main sail from a Shark 24 someone gave me. (mislabelled in photo...)I measured and marked it then cut it up to make a main sail for the Siren. Then I got the 120 head sail form a HR 25 someone else had given me, marked it for the 180 Siren genoa and cut it out. (I got the hole in my L thumb undoing the bolt rope on the main sail. Scissors and....)
I also gave the Siren another acid bath inside and out. Then a rinse and let it dry out through the day.
So I'm set for sewing when it rains next.
I installed the rudder into the crown with the cutting board shims I mentioned earlier. Almost installed the bungee cord pull down for the rudder. It's ready to screw to the crown after I get the SS transom hung rudder hinges on it.
We went for a lovely nature walk along the Thames river behind St Johns Seminary and saw a beaver, butterfly's, caterpillars, a toad, 3 spiny soft shelled turtles, a blue heron and lots of wild flowers. All about 1 km form our door! And all inside the city.
After supper I applied the floor sealer stuff to the Siren with my garden sprayer. On the jug it says not too let the sealer puddle so I wiped the Siren down with a shop cloth. Great idea... But I forgot to put on disposable gloves. (This is ware I got my nails done. Only on my right hand though. They even have more shine than my wife's!) She wants me to tell her how long it lasts....
Tomorrow a buddy is coming to give me a hand with the Mac.

I only did small stuff like putting the bulb back into my trailer lights(starboard side only works sometimes) and then poked a line through my below deck fuel tank vent system. While that didn't work completely, it loosened the plug enough to use my tire inflator to blow the rest out. After that, I didn't care that my keel winch mount and tiller handle still needed varnish or that more areas in the cabin needed wiping down - it was time to sail! wind 5-10 knots but gusts to 20 on our lake, so we went out with reefed main and jib only partially unfurled. Nice and relaxing even with variable winds. couldn't ask for a better day.

I did stuff to the Mac. (Other thread.)
I also did stuff to the Siren 17.
I put 2 more coats of floor sealer on the outside and installed the teak handrails. I bedded them with butyl and used finishing washers inside the cabin. Classy!
It is looking great!
I have 2 more applications of the floor sealer then a quick buff with the car buffer and it will be pretty.

I tried a small sample of Woody Wax on my boat. http://www.woody-wax.com/index.php It was hard to put it on evenly with a rag (actually the sample used a small sponge applicator - and I later tried to move the wax around with a rag). The only way I could see that I could apply it evenly would be with a sprayer - will have to discuss that with the distributor. Sounds like your product may be very similar and I guess at a fraction of the cost.

Does your sealer leave the deck surface slippery or does the buffing get rid of that? Do you put it on the non-skid and if so how does that turn out?

I sprayed it on with my garden sprayer and wiped it right away with my car wash brush. I noticed the spray didn't get it on evenly.
So far it's not slippery. I have not buffed it yet though. I want to get 2 more coats on first.
I don't expect it to be slippery. Mostly because it is a floor sealer and polish for commercial applications like hospitals and schools. They both probably don't want any extra liability for a slippery floor...
Wash the brush out right away after wiping it down or it will harden in the brush!
I had about 40 min to do any thing today so I put anchor chocks on the Siren and bedded the bow pulpit, nav light and anchor cleat. (The Mac is in the neighbours driveway (Pool construction needs access) so I figured The Siren was closer and easier to do quick things to.
I started to figure out how to sew my sail back together for the Siren tonight too. Also learnt how to splice in a metal eye into the bolt rope. (Thanks YouTube)

I went to Kensal Rental today to get a carb kit for my 2 hp Elgin OB. The repair small engines too. I thought I'd try there first before I broke down and found a "Marine" parts dealer. Especially for a OB that I have no idea how old it is. (I can't even find the same motor on line...? Not even with the old OB guys pages...?)
I told the guy at the parts desk that I needed a kit for a Lawson Power Products carb. He asked what it looked like and I said flat bottom gravity fed. He went right to the shelves and grabbed it. No looking up the # or wanting to see the photo I was trying to find on my phone.
$15.30 and I was in and out in less than 2 min! Score!
I put it in tonight.
Now if I could figure out how to service the bottom end. Or if I can service the bottom end...? There is one plug... For what I don't know. I'm going to try and put bottom end oil in it and see what happens.

I also cut anchor hangers for the boats out of white plastic gas pipe.
Then played around with the carb for the 8HP Merc that is going on the first boat north.
I'm not sure I have the right kit or not. And at $100+ I'm going to double check. (The bag of parts says "No returns if bag opened".)

I also used PVC pipe for my anchor. I had some stainless pipe clamps and secured them top and bottom around like your green tape. So far beginning the second season, it's been a great solution.

Finally got around to redoing the cockpit/motor well plumbing. I wasn't able to find a good tutorial anywhere, though I could have overlooked it. My boat came with old cracked and clogged vinyl tubing, and the locker had been flooded at some point in the past.

I didn't want to go back with vinyl, and searches for the right hose at all local supply houses was less than successful. I wanted hose that was flexible, but rigid enough to not collapse. I decided on radiator hose, and searched myself silly at the local Autozone for the right hoses. Below is what I chose (pictured with the 1.5" X 1.5" X 1" barbed TEE), and they worked out perfectly:

I cut a short section off the 1.5" hose to use as a nipple (you'll know which end when you mock up the install), then installed it on the drain at the hull:

I then installed the TEE on the nipple.

In my opinion, the factory nipple on the motor well drain is too long and does not offer enough slope for a proper drain. I shortened it:

I then cut the 1" hose elbow to make it short enough for a good drain. This little section is the only part that wasn't used:

Connected the motor well drain hose to the TEE:

It was then just a matter of connecting the long 1.5" hose to the cockpit drain nipple and TEE. To make slipping the hoses over the nipples and TEE easier, I lubed them with Joe's handcleaner.:

Success! Total cost was about $40 with all new clamps:

I plan to bolt the pipes on and put big washers inside the pipe.
I messed around with the 8hp merc. (On my to-do list I had -check carb.
Good thing I missed the small tube at the back of the carb that uses the engines compression from each cyl. to do something inside the carb.
I used a long pair on needle nose pliers to attach it and I even zip tied it with the pliers and a big screwdriver...
I forgot to get new rubber O rings for the fuel line so I didn't bother testing it yet.
I made a quick kicker bracket and a new mast crutch this afternoon. The old mast crutch was steel... and someone stole the kicker bracket off the boat before I got it. And Jasmine and I sculpted pigs. I got a little carried away at first but she set me strait.
We also looked at purchasing a couple of moose for the boat. (I said no...)
Tonight I got the sewing machine out and sewed the genoa for the Siren 17. I made it a bit bigger in the foot... It isn't pretty but will work. (I need to get some leach tape to finish it really nicely. I did put a leach line in.)
I broke a few needles tonight... Ted the repair guy says that if I'm breaking #16 and 18 needles I am doing something terribly wrong... Well of course I am! I'm using a home sewing machine to do things like sew through 8 layers of sail cloth! I'm a guy that wears safety glasses when I sew. I know there is a very good chance of flying debris.
Did you know you can sew cardboard... I have.

I made waffles! Big ones too!
I put the genoa sail I made in the washing machine... With a cup of CLR! And a splash of laundry soap. It's still crisp and void of rust stains. (So far! Don't do this to your sails!)
I attached the rudder, tiller handle and the OB mount I made yesterday to the Siren. I raised the mast to check the stay adjusters I got for it. Then I tried to change the main halyard with the mast up... It now has to come back down. I'm going to replace the blocks so every boat has the same size halyards now.
I gave Jasmine the old halyard to use with her play house. She is very happy!
Last sail picture is the cleaned sail.

I built a chicken head and installed new blocks on the mast of the Siren. (I have some new blocks for the Mac too.)
I used unpolished SS and pop riveted it to the top of the mast. I'll hit it with the spiny wheel wire brush to shine it up a bit.
I raised the jib halyard up about 8" to accommodate a furler I plan to build for it.
Originally the Siren had a cable in the luff of the head sale. I'm not doing that. I'm hanking it on the fore stay.

Went out with my daughter yesterday. Was able to put on new fiddles and main sheet. Like I said, I am going to find a way to turn my old main sheet rig up as a vang. My downwind runs suck. It has some to do with no bang but with swept back spreaders, it really gets ugly. The boom may be a at 45 degrees but the sail is laid all over the spreaders and shrouds. We did dig out the older larger jib (still sheeted inside the shrouds) and it was great. I probably should have reefed but since she's not a chicken we didn't. I still need to try it. Oh and man was the new sheet smooth

I...brought yet another Mac home! Fitted the trailer bunks, evaluated condition etc. She's a 1979 V25 and I'll be fixing her up over the next week to be ready for the 4th of July. She's a filthy wench, but I'll clean her up and sail her!

Ordered a new Main Halyard and Jib Sheets. The wallet bleeding continues....
You might be surprised at how much 300' will cost you. It's a lot less / ' than short lengths.
Do all the lines and halourds on your boat, sell the rest at the marina and make a little $.

I re-bedded the chain plates on the Siren with butyl. Jasmine loves playing with butyl.
The makers of the Siren used steel centred pop rivets... I don't know why...

Oh I found out I messed up when I cut the main for the Siren... I cut it too short. That's what I get for using a drawing with 3 different sails and measurements on it... It's just more sewing...

Hey Doc. Try and the bigger jib with the sheets outside the shrouds. Do you have genoa cars on the sides?
I have my main laying against the spreaders and shrouds at times running down wind too.
