So I looked up the model/serial number of my tanks and there it was mine are effected

Does anyone know what actually happened to warrant the recall

Anybody know what happens now that Lite Cylinder Company is closed down?

Thanks
Gary

I think we are screwed  the dealer that sold them does not want consider it his problem. They should not be refilled.
I still have my steel tanks and they are usable. I may buy the Worthington 10 lb aluminum tanks from Amazon for $110 each. They look like they will fit in our boat.
Good luck, Bob

Buy a Trident tank from right here at SBO, item # 206728. Only the Lite Cylinder tanks were recalled.

Personally, mine is hung out over the fantail and I'm going to use it until the guys down the street at the RV park get wise and refuse to refill it. The failure rate for the 25# cylinder is lower than the failure rate of the guys next to you on the highway. Flame me if you want to but it has rode the stern rail for two summers under a dark green cover and still has propane in it.

Laughing, No, Bob, but I have been accused of being a cheap ash engineer.

Apparently the jack-legs that were building the Lite composite tanks took a perfectly fine design and assembled it using shoddy practices and poor quality control. Then they shut their doors faster than you can say Freedom Industries, leaving others holding the bag. So your individual tank may not disintegrate, but it may also blow up. And no, you don't get compensated. Me, I used up the remaining gas, and opened the valve. My tank sits out in the hazmat shed waiting for it's day at the firing range. Lesson learned.

I think the issue was they could crack and leak. If the BBQ is outside (not in the garage) it is probably not much of a hazard. I think it is a good idea to remove it from a boat because of possible insurance issues should there be a fire, even if the tank had nothing to do with it. From what I read I believe it was the bigger tanks that had the issues and complaints. Also they were unable to produce proper testing data proving the tanks passed required standards when they were asked for it. I think the lack of data caused them to be shut down and with no sales they went under quickly.

Read the other thread that is now a sticky on this forum and linked above in my post. It has links to the recall notices regarding stopping use of the cylinder. We can't advise you any further.

Continuing to do so is your call, but I don't think I'll make it to your BBQ party. ;)

In my case it was a calculated risk. I left it in place undisturbed and used up the gas believing that jostling it around in the pickup trying to get it to my propane mechanic was riskier.

That's a good idea, Gunni. Once holed, the recyclers will take it. (Edit- Oops, they're fiberglass. Never mind recycling.)

Could be even more fun with incendiaries...

Ihave two full twenty pounders thought about taking them out on the ice in front of the house and blasting away with the 30-06

Have shot metal tanks but never plastic ones, wonder if the impact would cause an ignition??

Might as well have fun with this instead of a pity party
Just sayin!!!

With standard ammo, they won't blow up like in the movies, but I'd still advise caution.;)

I purchased my tank from West Marine and after the recall, I received a $100 dollar
gift certificate from WM and a new tank from Lehr Corporation at no charge.
