Last March you posted the clever idea of deploying a 2-gal tank of deisel for emergency use if the main tank clogs. You cut off one end of the bulb hose for attaching the end to the Racor filter to bypass the tank. I took your advice but fortunately didn't have to use it. Now at the end of the season I went to pump the 2 gallons into the main tank and it won't work. Is that because I've compromised the airtight system with an open hose at the other end of the bulb? Thanks for anyone's assistance on this basic physics question.

Don't know.

It only took me one semester to change my college major from science to business. But I would hold my thumb over the end of the hose and squeeze the bulb. If there were no pressure I would assume the bulb was bad or the pickup in the tank was clogged or had fallen off. Not sure what else you could do. If there is pressure then remove your thumb and see if fuel runs out. For sure I will try this at the first opportunity. . .in March. Now we have to hope that a sailor/physicist reads this.

Bulb

The bulb is directional and should have a check valve in one end. Got it in backwards? try the finger trik or get a new bulb. ps I dropped ot twice
