While waiting for Yanmar to reply, I would appreciate any feedback from you folks on what to check (or fix) next. My three year old Catalina 320 with Yanmar 3GM30F is running about 170degF at any/all RPMs. This after replacing the impeller and cleaning out a fully jammed strainer. It actually ran cooler before this fix, about 140degF ! Before taking the engine apart, can anyone out there take me through some next steps? Am I missing something obvious? What is considered normal temp? Thank you all in advance! Kevin "Freestyle"

Yanmar Cooling System Overhaul

Kevin, Just worked with my buddy on the same engine. Here is what we found/did: 1. there was air leaking in the lid the of the strainer. Replaced it with a beefy strainer which will never ever leak. 2. the cooling lines were compressing as the raw water pump sucked in, replaced them; 3. the thermostat was doubtful, replaced it 4. the exhaust elbow was carboned up and was blasted clean and repainted; the little raw water fitting was also full of crud. 5. cleaned out the heat exchanger Ran great after this. Yo, Peter

How'd you clean the heat exchanger? I've been thinking of Rydelmede sitting 3 hours. eh?

Temp

Kevin I was a little worried about my Yanmar running at 180deg. I have a C380 with a 3J series. I recently had it serviced and they said thats normal.
