While waiting for Yanmar to reply, I would appreciate any feedback from you folks on what to check (or fix) next. My three year old Catalina 320 with Yanmar 3GM30F is running about 170degF at any/all RPMs. This after replacing the impeller and cleaning out a fully jammed strainer. It actually ran cooler before this fix, about 140degF ! Before taking the engine apart, can anyone out there take me through some next steps? Am I missing something obvious? Yanmar Cooling System Overhaul
Kevin, Just worked with my buddy on the same engine. Here is what we found/did: 1. there was air leaking in the lid the of the strainer. Replaced it with a beefy strainer which will never ever leak. 2. the cooling lines were compressing as the raw water pump sucked in, replaced them; 3. the thermostat was doubtful, replaced it 4. the exhaust elbow was carboned up and was blasted clean and repainted; the little raw water fitting was also full of crud. 5. cleaned out the heat exchanger Ran great after this. Kevin I was a little worried about my Yanmar running at 180deg. I have a C380 with a 3J series. I recently had it serviced and they said thats normal.
