Yanmar 2YM15 anode replacement

I don't have the maintenace history on the 275 (hull #18) I recently purchased, so I changed the impeller, the oil and two fuel filters, and drained and replaced the oil in the engine and saildrive. I would also like to change the anode, which I have, but can't get the retaining nut off. That's the one that has a sticker warning you not to do it when the boat is in the water. It's takes a 1 1/4" socket, but even after puttin on some penetrating oil and using a breaker bar, it doesn't move. Any suggestions?

First of all, it's good to see this thread getting some new attention. Regarding your question, I think you might need a breaker bar. I own hull #31 (2016) and haven't replaced that anode yet but you've revised my interest.

Try heat, use a hot air gun and if that fails try an impact driver. It will probably need a ½" driver.

I did try a 1/2" socket, with a breaker bar, but the acces makes using it difficult. Not sure a heat gun will produce enough heat, and I don't want to destroy the label, but I might give it a try.

I'll try to remove the retainer nut this weekend when I go do my winterizing. I'd be curious to know if anyone has successfully removed it. I'll keep you posted...

What year is your boat (and hence your engine) ?

I'm curious as to whether this is a 2YM15 as this engine does not have an anode as it is fresh water cooled. See the attached operating manual.

Seems that you are NOT looking for an anode for a Yanmar 2YM15 (no engine anodes) but more likely the anode(s) for a Yanmar SD25 saildrive. The SD25 is an add-on for the 2YM15.

Do yourself a big favour and get a maintenance manual for the SD25. Seems they are notorious for corrosion problems and are more than likely $$$$$$ to repair.

Good luck with it.

Nice to get the feedback. The anode I am refering to is on my SD20 saildrive. On my boat it is coupled to the 2015 Yanmar 2YM15. It is clearly shown on page 29 of the operation manual (see attached), which also shows a picture of the warning label that is on the 1 1/4" retaining nut.
