I'm pulling the chainplates on my Y33 tall rig for inspection in a few weeks. Has anyone replaced theirs? Does anyone have dimensions or templates?

Thanks,

Mike

I pulled the chainplates and they failed inspection due to corrosion where they passed through the deck. I had new ones fabricated. Still have the old ones if anyone needs dimensions.

Mike. Such Corrosion is not unusual on oder boats. It would be great if you could share some pictures of your chainplates. Might help other sailors with this issue.

Here is what one of mine looked like. I polished the pit out and then pacified the metal before reinstall.
I used Butyl on the reinstall. No leaks.

Mine looked worse, but it was still a toss of the coin as to whether to replace them. It should have been simple but they turned into a PITA to replace. I might have kept them a while longer if I'd known. I'll take some pictures this evening and post them.

Chainplates: I was told that the corrosion can work its way inside the steel.

There was also some minor deformation of the holes. And more corrosion.

Good image of pit corrosion. When it looks like that it might be a surface blemish or it could be rotten inside like a termite had hollowed out the interior of the steel.

Exactly how it was explained to me. I was already in deep so I continued digging and replaced them.

Smart move. Not with titanium I hope. That would break my cruising kitty.

The re-rig project was a bit of madne$$. I'm still digging out. Titanium chainplates would be completely over the top for this, or any boat I will ever own.
