Saw her documentary. She was mature, ready. She had skills and a good boat. After circumnavigating, she chose NZ as home. She wants to live a sailing life. I am not sure she really wants to work for a living, or live to work. Good for her. I know people who have eschewed the rat race. They are happier for it whether it be on land or at sea.
I think children would benefit from a season at sea, learning the ropes, gaining confidence, living in close quarters with shipmates.
In South Florida, we had a program called Foci. I forget what it meant, but they took kids out of High School and made them sailors on a tall ship. It was a kind of boot camp for kids having difficulty with rules, and it taught them discipline... at sea. A friend of mine went through it. He later became a licensed Captain.
