That is very funny! I didn't notice that. However, it is just the house cigar and that is either a cloud or a release from a refinery or chemical plant on the carsonogenic coast on which I sail. I hope it is a cloud! Not sure what's in that cigar, but it must be some powerful stuff judging from the smoke.
A great way to unwind from the day.![]()
Out of sight out of mind......... ;^)Finally got out this past weekend for a few hours. Nice 6-12 kts to relax and enjoy. Believe it or not the Admiral was very happy! BTW Jackdaw - I always enjosy seeing how your boats are rigged. I seem to learn something new everytime. Hmmm - I just noticed my stb traveler block is twisted...
Indeed. Along with video, I use the one I mount on the transom (Hero3 black) a lot to grab still images straight out of the video. Each HD 1080p frame is a decent picture, so I just find the ones like like and copy them out of QuickTime. A good mount helps too. I use a HorizonTrue mount made by a company here in Minneapolis. I beta test them. The level horizon really makes the images look more cinematic.I gotta get me a Go-Pro!
Sooooo true...like so many other systems on a boat.Out of sight out of mind......... ;^)
The blue sail is a Code 1. While we normally fly symmetrical spinnakers while racing, code sails (and asyms in general) are great for reaching. On boats with non-overlapping rigs, code sails help reaching where a genoa would provide more sail area, and the angle is too tight for a poled kite.Sooooo true...like so many other systems on a boat.
As an instructional moment from your photos...
Is the spinnaker a symmetrical type (I see a pole)? The concept of not needing a pole on an asym appeals to me greatly. Is the blue sail a genoa or more like a code 0? I see it's rigged to what might serve as a spinnaker block versus a jibe car on a track. Our boat seems to have the basics of rigging for a code 0 or asym...no pole and a messenger line in the mast for installing the spin halyard next time I go up the mast- oh yea, and a rope clutch and a...etc. etc. ha TIA
Hey Thanks! What range of reach will you use the code 1? 90 - 135? A code 1 seems makes sense since because the limited traveler range on the h36 with a 110% jib is really limited due to the B&R rig. More power well off the wind would be helpful and looks like less complexity for 1 or two people to fly. I wonder where the sweet spot is in size/code for the h36? More research to do!The blue sail is a Code 1. While we normally fly symmetrical
For TWA (True Wind Angle) that range is close, maybe a bit tighter. But it of course depends on True Wind Speed, which moves the apparent all around.Hey Thanks! Wow that was one Helluva CigarSailing solo in Galveston Bay after work on a Tuesday in March with "iron Mike" at the helm.
