Wiring Question

I have a VHF radio mounted rear of the compression post on the headliner. The previous owner cut a 3" hole in the headliner and connected the radio to the light near the compression post along with running the coaxial cable through the deck near the mast. My question is how do you remove the lights so I can get to the connect he made and change a bad bulb? Also has anyone fished a wire from the electrical panel through the headliner to near the compression post? I removed the winch inspection cover and it seems to be a fairly straight shot to the front, just geting around the light is a pain though. I have a ST 40 coming and want to put a pull string in to get the wire back to the head unit. I would also like to put the VHF radio on its own switch and fuse and maybe some speakers for the radio under the counter. I tried to fish a wire up through the space but I keep getting caught on something. There is a half inch blue tube up near the light that some wires go through but it didn't feel like it goes very far maybe six inches. Any hints on how to accomplish this. Carl S/V Wind Shadow

Wiring

Carl I mounted both my stereo and VHF near the compression post, and ran the wiring to the fuse panel through the blue conduit. On my 260 the conduit appears next to the stantion inspection plate, not the winch inspection plate. As far as the light is concerned, they just pop off with a small screw driver blade. As for the speakers, I made some triangle shaped boxes, and covered them in the same blue cloth as the interior, and have them mounted in the corner of the V-berth. They have so much power, that I don't need cockpit speakers, even with the diesel running. Anything else I can help you with, don;t hesitate to e-mail me. Dan S/V Unruly Julie

Been There

I made a console to conceal wiring. I used the blue conduit to pass the additional wires. Remove wires at compression end and clearly mark, tie messenger line to wires and pull back to fuse panel, attach additional wires to messenger and pull back to compression post. See photos in photo forum under "h26 console".

Hunter 94 not same as 95

I checked for the blue wire tube.I used a mirror and a flash light to look into the space and It is only a 2 foot piece running from the compression post back to the switch panel, to bad it would have made the modification easy, not it will be a bear. I do however have a tube running from the switch panel to the battery compartment. I wanted to add a second wire to the battery compartment for my second battery and then add a perko power switch. To bad Hunter short changed my boat or the original owner modified it. I can't ask the original owner because he passed away in 1996 and the owner between him and me only had the boat for a few months before reselling it to me and is not very forthcoming about the boat or any problems after he got his money. The survey was sound though. I will just have to work through these mods and keep asking for help from the forum and those that have gone before me. I do really appreciate all the comments and help. I wish I new about this site and all the help sooner. I would have gotten a boat years earlier. Carl S/V Wind Shadow

Fish tape and much patience!

Hi Carl, If you don't have the smurf tube running to the compression post it is a good bit harder. I also ran some wires from the post down the port side to just forward of the head. I had to run a fish tape from each end and get them to hook in the middle. Then pull a cord. Also, the wires have to head outboard from the post and then back down the side. Otherwise they tend to get wedged tight between the deck and the liner. It can be done, but just takes time. Email me with your phone number if you want some details. I have fished several hundred feet of wire all over the boat. I'm in the owners directory. Good luck. Joe C. in NC '01 H260 Windward Passage
