bad taste..

Try shocking the tanks by filling them up and adding about a gallon of bleach. Leave them sit for a while then flush them several times.

Winterize....

Glen, I too am a recent new owner of a c30. My water tanks had the same situation plus the fill hoses were lined with black mold.... As suggested by others, I added a few cups of bleach into each tank and pressurized the system. I ran some water through the facets till I could smell the bleach. I then just let the system set for a night. The next day I ran out all the water then did this one more time during my next visit to the boat. The tanks, hoses, everything looks and smells much better. Good luck. Paul

Winterization of Atomic 4

I too am a new owner of a Catalina 30 for a about 2 years now. Even though I practically grew up on one. Below are the steps that I take when winterizing my Atomic 4 engine. I connect a closed circuit engine cooling system and flush for 1 hours with Heavy Duty Radiator Cleaner. Run the engine until the engine gets hot enough to open the thermostat and then add only enough fresh cool water to keep the engine temp from going over 180 degrees. After 1 hours, start intoducing cool water, until you finally get to where you are running hot, fresh water thru the block only. Add 1 pt Super Iron Out and flush for at least 30 min, then repeat above step. Shut down the engine and change oil. Fog the engine and spray all exposed surfaces with WD-40. Drain the block. Measure the amount of water that comes out. Then remove the thermostat housing and fill the head and block with the same amount of anti freeze that you drained out. Drain the Exhaust manifold. Drain the Water-lift muffler.

winterizing an Atomic four

Here is what I do to winterize my atomic four. After the boat is out of the water I darinthe block and the muffer and the muffler lift box. I put the plugs back in and remove the hose from the engine water pick fitting. I put the hose into a bucket of anti-freze such as the pink fluid or the non toxic green Poly Glycol. I mix it 2:1 anti-freeze to water for the ploy glycol. If I use the non toxic pink fluid I don't dilute it. Thenstar the engine and suck the anti-fress into the engine untill it comes out the exhaut fitting with a full strengh look. It takes about 2- 2 1/2 gallons. I then remove the plugs and put about 1/2 oz of foggin oil in each clyinder and turn over the engine a few revolutions. Then I drain the carburetor of gas. (fitting on the back sid of the carb. Replace the plugs. All done! To winterize thw water systwms I pump the pink, non-roxic fluid through the sytem. I don not put it into the hot water tank. I remove the hot and cold hoses to the water tank and couple them together with a fitting so I can pump the fluid through the hot water lines. It takes about three gallons in one of the water tanks. I drain the hot water tank.
