hello everybody, i am a newby (1st time buyer). i just bought a 1985 23' hunter & would appreciate any advice on preparing it for winter (drydock).

Before we reinvent the sail, have you used the search tab to look into the archives. There is a plethora of winterizing items on this website already. After you've done a search, maybe come back and ask some specific questions.
Of course this brings up an interesting idea-maybe there should be a "Winterizing" tab in the resource library. I took a quick look but didn't see anything.

have tried search; nothing specific, most advice is for bigger boats. mine hasn't been in the water for a couple yrs. also the sink has been disconnected due to lake regs.
Outboard I suppose? Follow OB directions.
Porta potty? Take home and put in garage
Do you have any thru-hull valves?
Drydocking like that you should have it pretty easy. Drain drain again and wet vac all you can.
If it moves and shouldn't use duct tape; if it doesn't move and should use WD-40; and if you can't drain it put in pinks stuff!
