This is my first sailboat that I couldn't trailer home to a nice warm garage. This week end I'm going to winterize Stargazer and would appreciate any local knowledge from other 320 owners.

To winterize in Maryland. 1. Go to the pump-out station and pump-out 2. Top off Diesel tank- add stabilzer first so it gets mixed in. 3. When back at your slip- close engine water intake. Pull hose and stick in 100' antifreeze. Start engine and run until you see anti-freeze discharge. May take 1.5 to 2.0+ gallons. May want to fog engine. 4. While your engine is still warm- change the oil. I change filters as part of spring launch routine. 5. Shut-off fuel tank petcock. 6. Loosen alternater and water pump belt. Inspect for replacement. When boat goes up on the hard. 7. Open all through hulls and drain. Close. May want to coat balls with lube. Some place wood pegs to keep insects out. 8. Fill raw water intake filter with anti-freeze. 9. Pump anti-freeze 60' pink through fresh water system until pink come out sink in the head. 10. Fill head with 60' pink and pump to holding tank. Open pump-out fitting and pour some 60' pink down hose. Stick intake head hose in anti-freeze bottle and pump until some come down bowl through ring. 11. pump-out bilge until dry. Add 100' blue and run until water goes out the drain. Leave residue in bilge. 12. Take all electronics and sails home. take all canvas off the boat. 13. Stand the cusions on edge. 14. if wood cockpit table on helm -remove.Take home or store on boat. 15. Take home all linens, clothes and food. 16. Batteries- I take mine home but they are group 27's. 17. Wash down topside. 18. cover and go home. That's about all I can think of- Just take your time. Last season I missed a bottle of wine and it froze and exploded. Good Luck Ian

Remove and wash lifejackets in industrial tub Open all doors and hold open with bungee cords, pipes Remove and clean water cooler Put red tape on top of rub rail for sling markers Pump out holding tank Call yard to arrange haul on wed or thur morning high tide Top off diesel at fuel dock at 60+ degrees to mix 3 additives, rock the boat Do year-end waxing Island Girl, followed by Mirror Hard Drain water, add 2 gallons nontoxic antifreeze & pump through... Save empty freshwater antifreeze for freshwater pump prior to winterize Open water heater valve to ensure antifreeze is coming Remove 3 lifesavers, lifejackets, spinnaker, elec line, hose Before water turned off Dec. 1, clean deck with Star-bright nonskid Remove sails to refurbish, resew, replace Velcros, clean, re-resin Mark and cut battens to fit better Engine, November Inspect fanbelts for wear stretch 1/ inch maximum Replace mixing elblow every five years done in January 200 Verify engine runs 3600 rpm at high idle or full bore, may need tuneup Drain and replace coolant fine in 200, try November 05 after draining, add FPPF 000 from Dec box if connection leaking, clean out hardened antifreeze clumps refill with 50-50 Texaco Anti-Freeze coolant extended life (green)... run engine to force air out of coolant at petcock not over lines for hot and cold, should rise and fall to those closely tighten coolant clamps everywhere to get overflow jar to work see page 30 for frequent places of leakage weakest links are at clamps for raw water and antifreeze clean pressure cap everywhere with bronze wool, inside cap too. cap to Napa 13 psi check.... First, rub rubber to heat up to fit. Remove and clean air horn filter, gently Order set of new filters from ship’s store Impeller No. 128296-2070 Impeller gasket No. 12223-2110 or 2070 Yanmar secondary fuel filter No. 10500-55710 & O ring (engine) Racor primary fuel filter R-11 for 110 & 2 O-rings for filter, canister Turn off petcock & wear paper mask Replace engine fuel filter, bleed offset w. socket. Bill (O'Donovan), do you live at the marina? I am glad I did not read a winterizing list like yours before I acquired a boat, otherwise I would certainly have been put off by the amount of work you suggest. After reading it I hope no potential sailors are discouraged and give up the idea of owning a boat. Come on, your list is way over the top. PS: I have managed to safely stay afloat for 15 years sailing - doing the winterizing essentials.

Ian - Follow up question about Holding Tank
Ian, first off thanks for a very good check list. About the holding tank, I pumped out the holding tank, then refilled with fresh water and pumped out again. I did a fresh water fill and pump out several times to flush the line from the head to the holding tank. Problem is the tank meter is still reading 1/4 full. The pump seems to be operating fine, it pumps my friends Catalina 30 totally. I'm going to pump out again this weekend and try to get the best possible seal, do you have any suggestions if that does not empty the tank?

Problem is most likely the gauge
To confirm or not, check the level in the tank visually. Ian, you'd save yourself some effort if you'd skip putting antifreeze in the bowl and just disconnect the intake hose from the thru-hull and pump the whole gallon through the head. Putting antifreeze down the pumpout fitting too is a waste of effort and antifreeze 'cuz it just ends up in the tank along the antifreeze you've already flushed into it via the toilet. You left out "drain the fresh water tank" before adding antifreeze. If you have a water heater, you should also drain it and bypass it before running antifreeze through the fresh water system. I saw only "pump out the holding tank" on both Bill's and Ian's lists...no mention of rinsing out the system. The tank--and the macerator too--should be thoroughly flushed out with plenty of clean water to remove any sludge before winterizing.

Remove hand held sprayer
The unit outside. It will collect water and will freeze and break. It screws off. Replacement sprayer cost about $60 for just the spray head.

It was easy to by-pass the water heater once I figured out how to disconnect the "fast disconnect fittings". I never saw anything like these. The hot and cold tubing just slides in, but to get them out I had to push the tube in, and then hold in a grey retaining ring. I couldn't find another Hunter owner in the marina this weekend to see if they had the same fittings. Anybody know if they are standard.

2001 same
My 2001had the same type quick connect and harder disconnect,don't know how many years hunter has been using this system but I like it it's easy to work on once you know how.
