I fully understand the difference in tires, but not all all season tires are created equal. A really good set of all season tires are pretty good, and for how the Cooper is used are just fine for my needs. The summer tires are not even close. I would expect a much greater gap from a really good set of all season tires, compared to summer tires.
My other 2 vehicles are Jeeps, both with very good all terrain tires. No problem in any kind of snow we have ever had here. And yes, we have had a few feet dumped all at once. I was one of 2 people that made it to work that day, out of a few hundred employees. One other thing that makes a difference is lockers front and rear in my Grand Cherokee. That tends to keep the vehicle straight even at high speeds.
