I fully understand the difference in tires, but not all all season tires are created equal. A really good set of all season tires are pretty good, and for how the Cooper is used are just fine for my needs. The summer tires are not even close. I would expect a much greater gap from a really good set of all season tires, compared to summer tires.
My other 2 vehicles are Jeeps, both with very good all terrain tires. No problem in any kind of snow we have ever had here. And yes, we have had a few feet dumped all at once. I was one of 2 people that made it to work that day, out of a few hundred employees. One other thing that makes a difference is lockers front and rear in my Grand Cherokee. That tends to keep the vehicle straight even at high speeds.

It's the same reason people in Seattle can't drive in the rain.
I know this post is really, really late and certainly not topical for the current season; but, I came across this website and noted several pertinent points to the discussion.

1. All Season renamed 3 Season
2. Performance of Non-Studded Winter (or Studded Winter) vs All Weather on Wet Asphalt (winter/spring/fall - PNW);
3. Stability on Asphalt of Non-Studded Winter vs All Weather or 3 Season.

So IMHO, for the PNW All Weather may be the tire of choice.

They make tires for snow? We had some snow in 2008. I think it was about 6-8 inches. "i think", because we don't really know how to measure snow here. It was 8 inches deep on my concrete driveway. It caused a 2 day holiday. My golden retriever thought he had died and gone to heaven. Typical for this area, it was 70F two days later and it all melted. I have a 4wd pickup with all terrain tires and didn't even try to drive. I've actually driven in snow and ice a little, but this is south Louisiana. If it's icy( just like when it's foggy) - speed up and brake hard. I stayed home and made a pot of gumbo.
