Boom tents work great also!
I have two. One just covers the boom but lays on the bimini so that it is full protection. I made that from nylon. If the sun is full, it burns heat right through the thin nylon and you can feel the suns heat.I also made a full cover boom tent from mast to backstay plus a foot with sunbrella. It is the most protective cover in hard sun or even a day of rain. I still sail. I sail with a furled jib and the boom tent when most guys are at the dock. I have sailed at hull speed more than once with just a furled jib. Looks like Sanford and Sons.. I don't care, I am sailing and momma is on the boat, rain or too much shine. Some mornings I set about 4'to 6' of jib out and troll a line behind while momma is in the berth. She hears me set things but that puts her to sleep as the boat has a gentle roll and the sound of water passing the boat for and hour or so. ( that took a while to make it work for her, but it does now!)Remember, everyday is different, some will turn out great, some will be sub standard. You will find that the most memorable days will be the hard ones to get through that you both worked at. Most of them will be good memories even if they were hard days!r.w.landau
