This question is geared mainly toward C27 and C30 owners with the newer style windows without the metal trim. I have a leak and would like to rebed the window. What tools did you use to push the window out without breaking it? Are the 4 screws and the caulk the only things holding the newer style window in place? This leak is starting to cause damage to my port settee and storage locker so I need to fix ASAP. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. I did search the archieve already.

I have a 1984 C27 that also had a leaking window. Just removve screws use a sharp rasor knife and cut around window and gently push window out. Remove old silicone on window and opening. Put a good bead off 100% silicone on opening and on window and just reset in opening, snug up screws and clean up edges.

Thanks

Thanks Rick. I was hoping it wasn't any more complicated than that but wanted to be sure. I'd hate to break one of my windows by trying to force it out. Tim

Big Project

The archives have a lot of good information. One thing to do first is to diagnose if the leak is occuring between the aluminum frame and the fiberglass or if it between the glass and the gasket. The frame leak is easy to fix, the glass leak is a whole new ball game. For me it was a ball game that lasted into the 25 inning and is still going. I rebedded all of my windows on my 27 last year and resealed the glass with new gaskets from Catalina Direct. I bought their kit. I am a detail guy and spent a lot of time with the project to make it perfect. After rebedding all of the frames and windows on my boat I had 4 of the 6 with leaks. Off they came. I re read everything for the 6th time and did everything again. On they went and I am down to 3 of the 6 leaking. So.....just today I ordered the retro fit window kit from cruisingconcepts.com. Shipping included it was $850. I just wish I would have done this last year and then I wouldn't have had wet cushions all year. I am sure there are plenty of other sailors out there who have been more successful than me, but I happily wrote the check today. Good luck! Steve
