I have a 1977 Cat 27 whose windows need to be rebedded. I have seen refit kits that replace the old alum. frames with plastic liners and then use a modern blacked-out plexyglass for the outside of the frame. These kits are for Cat 30's and up and cost approx. $725. Has anybody tried this as a DIY project? Any ideas on where to find the window liners etc? Any help is appreciated. Sean

725 ? try 50

Sean, I have a 1972 cat 27 that had 3 of the windows leaking, and had window tinting that had wrinkled and made visibility less than fair. I Emailed Catalina with my problem and they responded with this, determine your leak,is it glass to frame or frame to hull? I decided that because the tinting was failing complete dissasembly was in order. No Big deal remove windows, disassemble frames, clean glass, rubber, frames, and window openings, ie scrape old caulking off all and clean with alchol. Here is the key,get Butyl tape ,1/4 inch from a auto window shop.Butyl tape is applied to frames which have been reassembled,I cleaned all the rubber which looked horrible but cleaned up nicley by soaking over night in soapy water. put Butyl tape around frames and install in cabin side. I did this in 2 days and it has since rained and have no leaking ! you could spend 725 or do it like this and spend 30 dollars. Final step is seal glass to frame with silicone. any questions email me at amichel23@aol.com

I totally agree with you.... $725 is ridiculous.....I have ordered the vinyl extrusion to rebed the windows from Catalina Direct and I found a shop that does 5% privacy tint, to tint my own windows. I start taking them apart this weekend! Sean
