Wind Instrument display not reading

My Raymarine ST60+ Wind display is not pointing to the wind although it is displaying wind speed. It was working previously, and yesterday I noticed it just pointing forward no matter the wind direction. The windex at the masthead is properly pointing to wind.

Any ideas how to start troubleshooting this? I admit I have very little understanding of how my instruments are all linked together.

DrBill, I just went through this over the summer. Both the masthead unit and the display were shot. Ended up replacing both.

I had the masthead unit and instrument bench tested by Raymarine and they were ok. I messed around for a couple of years off and on trying to get it to work. I could never could get it to take the initial calibration and even though I could adjust the offset, it would never hold.... although it would always read wind speed accurately. I tried triple checking the set screws on the masthead cups to make sure they weren't slipping. I searched the internet rigorously but could not find a solution or the identical symptoms... Finally a seagull broke the wind cups and I replaced the masthead unit...it all works fine now and I didn't even have to calibrate...go figure.

I just went through the same problem. There is a easy masthead test procedure on the Raymarine Forum - Instruments section. You can apply an 8 volt dc source to the masthead wiring and measure output voltages for wind speed and port/starboard orientation taking the control head out of the equation.

You can also search here for the voltages you need. There should be a little junction box where the wires of the mast head unit hook together where you can check the voltages

Here's the link to the procedure and expected voltage. I had the same issue. Using this I was able to determine the fault was in the masthead unit. Good luck.

I had the same problem year before last. In retrospect, the electrical and mechnical connections at the masthead were probably coming loose but I did not go up the mast to check. That fall/winter, my entire (loose) masthead unit blew away in hurricane Sandy and had to be replaced. The new unit worked right away.
So in keeping things simple, a check of the masthead connection collar might be advised before you start replacing things.
