I am thinking about replacing my genoa winches from #16 to #30.
What is your opinion? Is this necessary? I want to update to self tailing winches and if need be I would up size.

You didn't say what make your winches are. If they are the Barlow 16s like ours, I would say an upgrade would be nice. The smaller persons on board have trouble handling the genoa upwind & could use more power.

I found a really nice pair of used 2 speed 40 lewmars that I am going to put on my O'day 27. Overkill? Yah, but it's gonna be nice

Right now Minney's in Newport Beach has them new in the box for $495 apiece. I just bought a pair and installed them on my Ericson 26.

I found a couple used self tailing 30's for $300 each.
Minney's did get back to me, $495 each, brand new. Very good price.

If you are using 8 inch handles, going to 10 give a very useful power bump.
