LUZ.... hate to keep harping on Brubeck... but it's so neat to hear someone discover something I've loved for so long.... This is MY favorite Brubeck album.. It is BRILLIANT!
At the risk of overkill on the music thread, but loving every word of it ...Thank you so much for educating and sharing.. I listened to all of the clips from this album and then followed links for a while... and found that I really llike a specific kind of jazz so far... I like it when it flows and seems more bluesy and moody but not when it bounces all over the place. For instance, of all of these, I really like:
Dave Brubeck: Stardust, Fujiyama, Calcutta Blues, Brandenburg Gate
Best of Paul Desmond: Song to a Seagull, Skylark:
Chet Baker/ Desmond: Concierto de Aranjuez(esp. liked this), You Can't go Home Again
I think I am pretty much a purist in a weird way.. I just want to feel it. So often I find myself moved to tears by a guitar or a saxaphone or a trumpet that is crying........ Chris Botti's trumpet does that, Mark Knoffler, Nels Cline, Carlos Santana do that with guitar, or some voices... Pavarotti, Callas,... or Helene Fischer doing Ave Maria..

or Andre Rieu and Mirusia Louwerse ... pay attention to the audience

Imagine sailing to that........... for me that's about as good as it gets.
