The new Hunter 380

is not longer in production. The new Hunter 38 is a GREAT boat production boat, but it is not build as good as a Bavaria Yachts. The new Hunter 38 is in a differ class than the 376, 380 or the 386. http://www.sailingbreezes.com/Sailing_Breezes_Current/Articles/BS05/bavaria36.htm

Keels failing

Waffle, Can you explain what's happening with the keels of these boats. Has Bavaria developed a fix for the keels that are failing? Here's another posting with more info on the problem.

keel stub

What is a keel stub? All I know is my boat took at 50+ knot storm for 2 hours with me anchored and my rode wrapped around the keel so the boat was beam to wind. Not only did my anchor not drag, but my keel held up just find even though it was heeled over at 60 degrees for most of the storm. Proved two things to me...keel is strong and I know how to get my anchor to hold.

this is what I saw

in my brief look. 376 is heavier. 376 has more sail area. 376 has a wider beam. 376 doesn't have all the teak....thank god. The 376 doesn't waste a lot of room on the V berth. The 376 has a larger cockpit. That was all I needed to see so I stopped looking. Dont' get me wrong...the 376 isn't perfect. I wish in the aft birth on the port side they inclosed that and made it part of the lockers from the cockpit. I wish the made the closets bigger. There is a lot of room in the boat that could have been used for storage space but instead is wide open. Makes the boat feel bigger, but reduces the storage. So far I don't need the storage but soon I will. If I find I need it though, I can build my own.

Hunter 38

Waffle: Can you provide some details to why you reached this conclusion? "The new Hunter 38 is a GREAT boat production boat, but it is not build as good as a Bavaria Yachts."

There are a few easy to spot construction issues. 1. Steel toe rail verse fiberglass toe rail. 2. Water resistant foam core verse wood core decks. 3. All windows open verse all window don't open. 4. Fit and finish (The Hunter is prety close here). But the Hunter 38 is a GREAT production boat and cost a lot less than the Bavarian! You get what you pay for!

Andy Waffle You want a Bavaria !?!?!

OMG ! Only if I had a grand prix racing boat that cracked in half like the Americas Cup boat. They have had LOTS of issues with their keels ripping off ! And thats not on a grounding but just while sailing it hard! Reminds me of The picture "pop top" Hunter 376 (?) that had the chainplate pull 1/2 the starboard deck up on a hard sail. I have to laugh when people call a Hunter run of 2-4 years manufacturing a "classic". The only classic Hunter had was the Cherubini's (sp?) And Mark from Albany Western Australia --- thats not defamatory thats FACT. Keep drinking the Koolaid. Bavaria WANTS to put doubts in everyones minds ! They designed and built a CRAPPY BOAT and they are starting RUMORS and false instances (FUD) to divert attentiion from a major design Faux Paux !! Read some REALITY about the Failed Keels on the bavaria. IMO you couldn't GIVE away thes Bavaria 42's with all the facts out now !Take a look at the second set of picture from an independant surveyor and all the other boats with scary hull to keel cracks. Some thing (hidden) tidbit from Bavaria

Little **hidden** redesign after their boats lost a keel or two (yes there was a a death due to it) Here is a schematic (less than a month old) of the redesign of the Keel Attachement from Bavaria after they realized what a cheap shoddy job they did -- a good lawsuit or two will do that to you ! http://www.bavariayachtbau.de/typo3/typo3temp/pics/f2f45e4496.jpg Do some reading and STOP taking the marketing and sales peoples word on things http://www.cs-bb.com/forums/CSBB/index.cgi?read=22230 The worst part is that they are trying desperately to avoid and deny everything (and all of you here are buying it !!!) When you'all compare a Hunter vs a Bavaria and say one is a GREAT (LMFAO) boat production boat, but it is not build as good as the other I have to laugh my F***ing A** off ! Thats like comparing a Pinto to a Gremlim ! Ok Ok....thats a bit harsh, but maybe more like comparing a Chevy with a Chrysler.. You guys gotta get REAL

Waffle: Thanks for the observations. 1. toe rail. While the traditional steel toe rail with places to attach hardware ever few inches is sure nice, those bolt holes every 4" or so are a source of leaks waiting to happen 10 years down the road. 2. foam core vs wood core--absolutely and completely agree 3 open vs non-open windows. I see this as a matter of taste and oreference and not of construction quality. Certainly the more windows that open the better the natural ventilation. But with more and more boats being equipped with heat and A/C I'm not sure how important this really is. 4. Fit and finish is just too generic to comment on. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond. As for me, I'll take a Wauquiez 40 Centurion please.
