and what did you buy? We like the Bavaria Yachts of Germany the best. We are waiting for the new 37 to arrive at the end of the year. The construction looks a step up from the big 3 production sailboats.

I think we should be very very carefull

when we quote articles like the one in the above link for I think we all know that Bavaria have taken action against such defamatory reports for it would appear that the yacht had beed grounded heavily before this event and that when the yacht was slipped there was a net tangled around the prop. The information provided by Bavaria on their site is rather interesting reading.

Couldn't find any info

Mark, Couldn't find anything on Bavaria's site. If I remember correctly the same thing or it might have been a rudder came off one in a race in the Channel recently. Think I read about it in an English sailing mag.

Liked the Mahogany but purchased a Hunter

I think the African mahogany interior was well done. I was surprized that they did not seal the end grain of 7 ply plywood in the floor. (Not that I have seen any others do it, just surprized that, that quality did not do it.) I ended up purchasing a Hunter 27 to be my first sailboat. Figured I would learn on something new so I had a little less to worry about maintence wise.

Troll or Pump?

Too little information, the starting post for this thread has that slick marketing feel to it. A little pump from Bavaria - or a troll for how the brand is perceived? No info, very little in reasons for the preference, just a huntalinateau cheap shot, no mention of the type of sailing the author may do. Nothing but a little pump. It was also the only post by "Waffle" that I could find in a search of this site.

Is there a Bavarian Waffle in our midst???

But it worked... I went to their website and looked around. Hmmm, seems like pictures are as expensive as land in Germany - why weren't there more???? I've seen some really nice boat websites - panoramic views, etc. But I didn't see anything special - I might even add them to the name: bavhuntalinetau, or perhaps huntalinebavtau. Good instincts, I reckon, OldCat. Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8 Bob

Hylas? Shannon? At least you had a

real boat show. Any other decent boats on display? Here in LA, our boat show last weekend featured Benehuntalina, Jeannau (sp?), Island Packet and a lone Hanse. Just for kicks, we tramped through the biggest stinkpot on display (55 ft, $1.2 million) and were shocked that the headroom in the ornate master stateroom was about 4 FEET *yks And I thought only sailboats had stuff like that. For a million bucks, I'd at least like to be able to stand up!!!!! Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

Yeah, Bob, 4 foot headroom

but they had a mirror on the ceiling so it was really 8 feet! Stu

SailTime

Did anyone check out SailTime at the show? Do you think their system can work? $6K for a season of sailiing seems reasonable for a new 33' boat.

I agree with Franklin...

I think that the Hunter 37.6 or the 380 is a classic boat already. At least for me it has a better design than what I have seen on the Bavaria Yachts. But that is subjective. A question for this group! What do you folks think about navigation stations? Do they have to face forward? How big do they need to be for my paper charts? (which I fold) . I do most of my navigation at the helm..... All my instruments are at the helm (with a repeater at the nav station. So? Les

Bavarian Photo shopping

The picture in the link looked a little "phot0 shopped". Acutally I was impressed with the Bavarias at the 2003 show and thats one reason I chartered on in the BVI in '04. I wanted to do the Bavaria thing but went back to Hunter due to availability, local service, and THIS WEBSITE. A wealth of knowledge available here you know.

Still nothing on Bavarias site

Mark, Still can't find anything at Bavaria's site re keel problems but found this discussion going on at the CSBB. Quite interesting.

I had reason to measure the laminate thickness on the turn just by the keel stub on my 376. Am now studying each of my fingers!!!! 19 mm AFTER Hunter had paid for thickening it up. A UK designer says 25 mm is nearer the mark. Sleep easy old friend.
