Whisker Poles

Hi Captains: I have a Catalina 310 that I sail in the western basin of Lake Erie. There is a lot of "power boat" induced chop in this area and in July and August not a lot of dependable wind. With my boat bobbing around the 150 genoa is constantly collapsing. This makes for a long day on the lake. In a previous Catalina 22 I used a twist lock whisker pole not only for down wind wing and wing sailing but also to keep the genoa from collapsing on light air days with chop. Question: do any of you successfully use whisker poles on 30 ft boats? Good results? What kind of poles - twist lock or line control? Fixed mast pad eye or track? Pole storage location - deck or stanchion? These poles are expensive and I don't want to invest without a little checking with others who have had the experience. Thanks for any help!
