If you haven't sailed with a whisker pole I think you will really enjoy it. I assume that you have roller furling and if so, you can furl the genoa with the pole still on. This is really handy when you get caught in a squall. If the wind is getting up to the end of your comfort you will find that the pole is too highly loaded to release the end from the mast. in these conditions I just ease the sheet and roll the sail. it will tuck into the forestay and just stay there.
A whisker pole will make downwind sailing without a spinnaker much more enjoyable. Otherwise the main kills the jib and the jib flops back and forth annoyingly.
