Exterior sweating can happen. Also, with an original propeller shaft packing assembly, water can be thrown up by the spinning shaft in front of the tank. Rudder shafts often leak and splash behind the tank. Once the tank base gets wet by whatever source it will stay wet unless it is sealed and designed to drain and it is separated from the tank bottom by bonded strips of plastic or some other equivalent arrangement. Keep in mind that even with the worst production boat practices and thinner tanks, they lasted thirty to forty years.

I received some private messages from this forum, thanks for that, suggesting switch valves so that if one clogs, I can easily switch to the other. Of course this makes perfect sense. It's not often I take action right away, but I do listen. Thanks for your suggestions. Eventually, I would like to hard tube it, but I'm trying to use some spare stuff I have to help fund the bigger needs (wants)
