I am looking toward replacing my bow, stern and anchor lights with LED bulbs. We had this thread discussion a while ago (http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/archive/index.php/t-151550.html) but some of the part numbers I cannot find. If someone has a better source let me know. Below is what I have.

• Bow and Stern: Festoon, Philips K25673. Replacement LED is Marinebeam, FS-42-30C CW, LED Festoon 42mm 30SMD Cool White 10-30VDC

• Masthead anchor bulb incandescent is an Osram 5008 12V R10W 37R. Replacement LED is Bayonet BA 15 LED 15-SMD LED Bayonet mini-tower, base type BA15S single-contact, Cool White. USCG approved LED anchor light fixture from Marinebeam, new bulb Part number N1-360-CLR.

I have only done the anchor light. I went with the Hella LED upgrade from Catalina Direct.

I have done my cabin lights. All of the details are in this blog post.

I am planning to deal with the nav and stern lights soon. So I will be interested in what you find.

Good luck and fair winds,

Jesse

Will let you know

I am particularly interested in the anchor light. Admiral and I are going to spend a week in July cruising the bay and anchoring out a bit. That LED up there should come in handy.

Nice

I just installed five of these. Subjective evaluation: they seem to be a reasonable match for the OEM bulbs in color, light angle, and illumination.

I did replace a couple of my interior lights with these and I like the brighter white light of these better than the halogen lights. I can't say I have ever had a halogen light go bad so my primary motivation was to reduce power draw.

I still like the replacement from Cruising Solutions (Bradd Wilson <info@cruisingsolutions.com>) Looks just like that but - in our existing fixture, you turn it on it is red light, flip off and right back on you have white light (a very nice temperature white light) Turn off for 5 seconds it comes back on Red again. We put these in every fixture that could be turned on when you come down in the cabin, so you never zap yourself with white light at night...

Check them out...

Can you post a link? Went to their web site but couldn't find any 2 pin "bulbs"; just wedge? Or bayonet
Thanks
Peter

Interesting thread

I do like the idea of the 2 color bulbs. In order to not snoop, I did not pay a lot of attention to the MarineBeam box that came in the mail the other day (Father's Day is coming, must not cheat!). I also passed on the link to the 5 pack of interior leds on Amazon to the admiral.

I can definitely see the advantage of a couple of those red-white ones for the head and where you first come down into the cabin.

Here is the information - just specify the Back Pin Model. Again you can contact Bradd for any questions:

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This drop-in G4 bi-pin replacement features two modes from the same bulb! It can function as either a Red bulb, for preserving night vision, or with a quick flick of your existing switch, it can morph into a high-output super-bright Warm White bulb. When initially switched on, its output comes from the three center RED LEDs. This provides a nice soft red output that is more than enough light to see really well down below at night. It is your choice whether you want Red or Warm White. The bulb senses each toggle of the switch and latches into the Warm White mode if the switch is toggled off-on within 3 seconds. To revert to Red mode is a simple off and back on with a 3 second delay. It is now available as both a side-pin and a back-pin.

Lumens 120 W/ 80 R
Beam Angle 120 degrees
Dimensions 28.7mm x 29.6mm x 7.5mm(+ pins)

We went with cruising solutions interior red/white lights. I had one light that did have an issue and called brad, sent it back and he sent me a replacement at no cost, no hassle.
Because we sail at night sometimes, the red lights are nice and we felt the cost was reasonable, lights are easy to install, pull the old one out and put the new one in!
At some point I will go to change over the outside lights to LED.

Just a heads up that the linked model is a side pin, which will work in the head but not on the other lights. They do have back pins available for the cabin lights but they're not listed. You have to call them.

Depends on the fitting

Most of the time we need the back ones. But, I have been the recipient of a few of the interior ones that are side, so I just bent the pins and shoved them in. They work just fine. I learned how to adapt things from PaulJ.

FYI saw this picture on another site.

Update

Got the Marinebeam bulbs in and installed the bow and stern lights.
http://store.marinebeam.com/42mm-44mm-festoon-led-navigation-light-cone-end-type-mini-max/

Warm White for the bow, Cool White for the stern.

In the daylight they seemed pretty nice. Have a night trip in about two weeks. Admiral has agreed to be winched up to the top of the mast to replace the anchor light bulb (will be testing that in about 2 weeks as well). Will give another update then.
