Harken

I have a harken roller furler on my 27. It came with the boat when I bought her 5 years ago. I had only one small problem that was fixed immediately when I called them. Even though I told them I was not the original purchaser they sent me a new manual and part for free. So on that basis I like harken.

Practical Sailor

Practical Sailor had an excellent piece on Furlers last month. They covered all of the major brands as well as some that I never heard of. They are independent, and usually a reliable source of information.

Reef Rite

Outstanding value, performance, engineering and safety features. Downside is the wait to get one airshipped through customs. Well worth the wait. Big bonuses ar the ease and safety of headsail changes, the ability to DIY conversion of sails from hanks to slides and locking drum. You can get details at www.anzam.com

all ar e good....

... but I really like ProFurl. Very competively priced, High quality titanium, simple, good customer support and most importantly they have a terrific log of testimonials from crusing sailors and offshore single-handed racers. I also like Harken, Shaeffer, Furlex and Hood. Make sure the model you buy will handle the reefing function well.

Profurl

Just instaled a new ProFurl and love it. Did a lot of research, spoke with a lot of owners about their brand, decided on Profurl.

We installed our ProFurl about 3 years ago after

researching the "big four". Profurl had a couple really nice options the others didn't have ie, their "Wrapstop" feature, and low/no maintenance. When installed properly, they are virtually trouble-free.

Trouble Free Pro Furl?

I like my Pro Furl, but the devil is in the details. The original rigger goofed up big time and cost me a lotta $$$ to get it repaired. He didn't use lock-tite on the extrusion joints. He goofed up the top fitting. He didn't use Tef-gel and non-vinegar silicone rubber on the drum screws. Pro Furl, while very good, uses titanium and aluminum in contact with stainless. Very important to properly lubricate and segregate the four screws in the base drum regularly with anti-corrosion inhibitors. They're all pretty good furling units, just don't buy the NO maintenance. After all it's a boat!! :) :) Stu

I've been happy with my Schaeffer

I have had 2 boats with one, My C36 came with the Schaeffer and I installed it on my old boat (27 foot sloop) & wasn't too hard to do. Like said before, Practical Sailor just did a report on this. Most models you can get these days were decent, some were easier to install. As I recall the Schaeffer was one of the top models
