Which are the best Catalina 27 years?

Am on the hunt for an earlier model Catalina 27. Which are the best years for this model pre 1982. I've heard some years were better than others.

1985 worked for me.....

Spend a tad more and find a 1985 with an inboard diesel....you'll love it!

1980

We have a 1980 standard rig with an outboard and are totally pleased with it. We primarily sail her on a large inland lake but, we have trailered her to the west coast of British Columbia living on her for up to six weeks at a stretch. Despite serious storms, tremendous rip tides in very narrow channels, huge whirlpools, and some less than prudent discissions on the part of the crew, "Sea Raven" has always brought us home safe and sound. We don't have the experience to comment on other models, but 1980 model has more than proven itself to us.

76 Cat

I have a 76 Cat that I sailed for 6 years. Although I have no other experience with other larger sailboats, I can say that this boat with twin starboard and port winches has weathered some rough conditions. Under 20 knot winds and 10 foot waves on a close reach, it performed better than 2-3 foot chop waves with varying winds. The nice thing about sailboats with good displacement ratios are they handle better that power boats.

1971 Catalina

I have a 71 cat and enjoy it vary much. I race and cruise all year long. The earlier models (71-75) are lighter and stronger than the newer ones. Mine has a tall rig and a 8hp Honda outboard. It rates 230 in the phrf rating book. This is a great rating if you want to race in club events. My boat has won south sound boat of the year and is currenty for sail. I am asking $8500.
