I have a 1981 catalina 30 with the Universal Deisal 5411 (11HP) raw water cooled engine. I checked the owners manual and the tech talk collection, and can't seem to find where the engine zinc is located. The manuals only show engines with heat exchanger configurations. Mine is raw water only. Can anyone help?

The case of the missing zinc

Easy! The 5411 engines don't have zincs. As you've found in the manuals, only the larger Universals with heat exchangers have them. I hunted all over my engine also, before the local Universal parts guy told me the secret. Good luck.

zinc

same on my 27. no zinc. it blows my mind when i think of the raw water supply. no filter and the engine can't get hot enough to get up to temp. i think it is best to be ignorant and just use it.
