Under wraps for the winter

Completely covered by my new winter cover. About 5 min from my house, it'll stay under wraps and in the boat yard until late May, then we'll move it to the Yacht Club right next door. It's well secured and has all the extras and the best floating docks on the river.

Why not Portland Harbor or even S. Freeport? Much closer for you. I love Snow island and it is a great sail out and back from Portland. Where do you usually cruise to in teh summer? I keep mine at CYC in South Portland in season and at home on the hard. Tim R.

Have you actually looked at the # of boats moored in Casco Bay!!!! Its like sailing on the freeway down there. I would take a guess that there are at least 1,600 boats moored down there between the 3 yards (and that isn't even counting Freeport and Portland/S. Portland. I'll take my drive any day of the week. It would take me 40 minutes to get down your way... so its only another 30 minutes. Takes me 20 minutes to motor out to the Sheepscot and clear sailing. I can get to Boothbay in 1 hour under the iron lung if you can catch the bridge. My sailing has been limited to Sheepscot Bay and Booth Bay. Hope to get up to Penobscot Bay next year. Thanks, Rich

Casco Bay is not as crowded as you might think. We can always find a spot with no other over nighters or very few. But, if you live closer to the mid coast than Casco Bay I vote go East!!! Pen Bay is our favorite!!

This is a town slip with a 3 year waiting list and dock fees @ half the price of a local marina so I'm stay here. I have a nice mooring

We have a nice mooring where we also happen to have property and a shared beach (and "marina".) While the Home Owner's Association doesn't 'get' that a mooring should be a LOT less than a dock, it's still a decent deal. We've been there 2 years and will go on three (with two diff boats) next summer. My only complaint is that it's a bit open under certain winds, so if the weather is really bad (40-50+ knots) I tend to want to move it to a public marina where it's a lot more protected. On the other hand, if they raise the rates one more time in relation to the docks, I'm heading up lake about 3 miles and getting a nice protected dock. :) Dave Crowley s/v Wind Dreamer II P303

At the Port of Kingston since May 2004. About 25 minutes (14 miles). It has been closer, about 6 minutes from the house, but I was working in Kingston, and it is a lot more reasonable in costs. 47 47' 41.63" N, 122 29' 53.15" W. There hasn't been a recent photo since I have been there so the boat there is not mine. My boat is actually shown at my previous mooring.

"Knotty Dog" is moored year round at the Port of Edmonds in the hope that we'll have a day or two in the winter when it will be decent enough to sail without rain and howling wind. Port of Edmonds is 15 minutes north of Seattle and about 50 minutes from my home. It's the easiest marina to get to for us, so we have no plans to move. It also puts us several miles closer to the San Juan Islands than other area marinas. The moorage rates are reasonable ($225/month for 28') and the management is exceptional. The fairways behind the breakwater get very narrow as the tide goes out, leading to some interesting traffic flow on busy days. We've had boats there for 4 years, after having a daysailor at the Leschi Sailboat Basin on Lake Washington, where the docks were literally collapsing into the water and where the neighborhood kids would reach through a hole in the fence to open the gate and roam the docks at will.
