Picky picky...Blythe had no business taking an ill founded vessel on such a journey, which he did and he survived - though he only made it across the Atlantic before his poorly constructed boat proved unfit. Perhaps I did over simplify his situation, but he was far from qualified for the challenge he undertook. You or I would be probably be better qualified - and I don't consider myself ready for a solo non stop curcumnavigation. My point is that one can take a sailboat out with little knowledge and travel considerable distances learning as one goes. Certainly there will be many hard lessons learned along the way. Usually the boat will take more than we can. I am not advocating this approach and am as amazed as the next guy at the ignorance of some who have no business being at the helm.
