I love it, Tim!

Leftover starboard? How big was the original piece that this is the scrap from?
Those were scraps I accumulated from multiple pieces over the years.

DIY hanging holders

I made my own out of some heavy-gauge wire, coiled at the bottom and spiraled 2/3 up the side of a bottle, then hung from my stern rail. They aren't good for coffee unless you put it in a bottle first, but they are in easy reach for booze cruises. For coffee, we just tacked a little of the under-rug non-skid stuff to the bottom of some of our mugs, and they stay put pretty well wherever you put them.

Bicycle water bottle cages. Available in plastic or aluminum (skip the chrome - rusts) and nearly indestructible. Very secure.

We have the teak holder at the binnacle. On our older C22 and C25 we used those cup holders with an extender and lip that are designed for cars to be placed where the glove compartment closes - before they started building in cup holders in cars. Still have a few on board - open a hatch, stick 'em in, close the hatch. About $1 at Napa.

Unless you have a wide-body mouth on the cup, a bit of heeling shouldn't spill the contents. We also have a cup holder on the stern perch seat - I've seen so many of those without cup holders - just wonder what the designer of those was thinking - perfect place for one, since it's so tempting to put something on the seat...

There were 7 drink holders on our boat when we got it...all metal or plastic like the photo to the right.
I wondered if the boat ever left the dock!LOL

we mounted a 4 cup holder right above our fold down table on the pedestal. It has been wonderful because it served many purposes: drinks, gloves, handheld even binoculars. Easy to reach, and it pops off to clean if it needed that.

Love our stearn seats with cup holders built in and use them for our hand held sometimes and I hold the left one while steering when we are heeled alot. (sounds odd probably but it is great) Agree with the rubber bottom on coffee cups, they stay put in most cases.

One caution with guard mounted cup holders

I got out of the habit of leaving my blackberry in the cup holder after I noticed that my wheel pilot worked like crap. Move blackberry and voila...works fine. Probably was affecting the compass too. Damn blackberry throws a magnetic field that will impact a conference room speaker phone from about three feet!
