Where did summer go

What summer? Just a late spring or early fall!!

More to the point, I want to know where the whole bloody year went. It is November already fer crying out loud! The last time we had more than two days on the boat was in May. Work runs out this week so maybe if the weather cooperates we can get an overnighter in.
I cannot complain. We got out for 2 weeks in Sept. with only 1 rain shower that happened at 2am one day. Otherwise beautiful and great wind.
Putting together two good weekend days this fall has been a challenge though. In the summer we will go out when it is raining if one of the weekend days looks good but in the cooler temps we want two good days.

i get back to dago jus tin time for the best season--indian summer lol...then in jan i go back to noo orleenz fo rsailing to virgins with phil---this was a great sailing trip--we did everythi9ng----broke his boat and sailed a lot..LOL....broke 2 fishing poles trying to land big fishies and just this morning i lost a very heavy one---broke the 45 pound steel leader !!!! dangit--i wanted that last fishee of the year ---waaahhhh---i will get heavier leader for next trip and get him LOL---he is MINE!!!!!! the good bye sail on gulf was perfect---fair winds, following seas and full moon and stars to guide us...awesome....i will post pix when i figure out how to make mine post here---should be soon ...LOL

We will sail our H-336 north from Maryland waters into Delaware for the winter tomorrow. Our winter marina will allow us to stay in the water until December so I get to still spend a few more nights and watch football games from my boat until we pull her. Going cold turkey too soon is too much of a shock so letting go little by little until December is much better. I get to do a few maintenence items and get everything ready for the hard. Even when we are on the hard, every week or so if the sun is out, I will sit in the cockpit, listen to the radio and have lunch in the boat yard. And I have noticed, I am not the only one in my boat yard doing winter boat yard lunche thing. Great hobbie! Sailboating, dont leave home without it.

Not a summer to remember ...
For us, this was about the most depressing summer on record, for sailing and otherwise. But here is our crew, on what may be the last sail of the year, looking forward to a better year next year! We've already had some snow on the decks this year. It happened a few weeks ago when a few inches of slush accumulated. That was even before we had this nice sunny day!

Why in Florida would any one complain?
Here In St Pete the cool nights and cool days are starting. The winds are starting to rise and sailing season is here. In Florida this winter it may be cool to at times cold, but the water is wet, and not hard. The boats don't have to come out to be covered with snow till spring.
Yea we pay more for insurance, more for dock space but we get to use the thing ALL year long. Our summer is the north's winter. The winds are light the temp too hot, and it's when we do maintenance to get ready for the Fall, Winter, and Spring sailing season.
We dodged another hurricane season, and are ready to go out to the blue. Soon the small craft advisories will start, and off we go. I have my jacket,and my foulies ready. There is a big smile on my face. The oil has been changed, the bottom painted, and I see nothing but excitement with my friends on the horizon.

I am the dummy restoring(and going well, thanks to you all) the Hunter 33, damaged by Ike
Motor is in good shape, another rudder installed, inside cabinets all re-done, new varnish, chain plates re-bedded, waiting on port light gaskets.
Then I will step up the mast, attach spreaders (I found some), and install bow and stern rails, hand rails all stained and ready, and winches cleaned up and greased up, ready to install.
What I wanted to say is that having lived in 3 continents, and being 56 years old, I have never seen snow!
Once a little up a mountain in Bolivia, and once in New York a little, but not the snow where you can get a handfull.
Dec. 2004 snowed in Houston, I was inside my restaurant, so missed it also

When I asked about motorcycling to one of my Navy buddys who was from Alaska, he said that most folks there didn't motorcycle because you could only do it in the summer... and that day most people went swimming. We thoroughly enjoyed riding Padre Island south out of Corpus .
It went by, all right, all the way from January when I broke my leg skiing to late August when the plate in my leg broke requiring a second surgery. 
For those of you who complained about just the weather...
I did get out on the boat in May, June & July during "Recuperation #1" with a cleverly designed "Get Back on the Boat Program" that went like this: I spent the first three months in bed thinking about how I was going to get on the boat with crutches and only one good leg!!! Surprisingly enough, my idea worked – I sure had enough time to work the bugs out! Then I gradually worked my way up from motoring only with my wife, jib only with her, both sails with her, both sails and anchoring overnight with a buddy, jib only alone, both sails alone, sail and anchor alone. Worked great until the bloody leg broke again! This time around I've been down to the boat a few times, have yet to take her out 'cuz I have to reinstall my alternator.
It's not so much that I want to simply walk again, all I need is enough mobility to sail the danged boat!
It's always something.
But I've learned that weather shouldn't be one of 'em. Be grateful you have your boats and your health. This MB and our C34 'site kept me sane. Thanks to those of you who put up with me & my pain meds during that period.

Sounds like the "rough weather" is behind you! Know you're looking forward to fresh air and the breeze of a good sail. Going into winter lots of us have our sails down for the winter. On the bright side you're in a great sailing area! The web sites do help occupy our time between sailing adventures. There's an old Chinese proverb that says, "Imagination is everything. It is the future of life's coming attactions!" Keep your imagination going, there are wonderful sailing adventures ahead of you! Have a geat day!

Ouch Stu, take it you won't be skiing this season!
I ski with my family every year. When I bought my boat 2 seasons ago I started worrying about an injury. My son broke his tibia and was wheel chair bound for six weeks. Not much fun. Sorry to hear you broke it again. Speedy recovery and happy sailing! My boat is on the hard again:cry: but just rented a place for the season :dance:nice to have sports activities that keep us young and outdoors.
