Does anyone know where I can find some fiberglass or asbestos material for the exhaust pipes that come from the engine and go to the muffler? My pipes rusted thru and the old wrap held the moisture helping the rusty situation. I almost had it back together yesterday if not for the wrap. A big thanks in advance cole

Cole, Be sure and replace the pipe with stainless steel. I found the wrap at a fabricator of diesel engine packages. They use it to wrap the exhausts systems. If you can not find it I some left over that you can have along with the stainless wire to hold it on.

Pipe wrap supplier

I got pipe wrap at a local auto supply store. Good luck with your project. I used black pipe 3 years ago. No sign of external rust yet.

Here's what I did

Go to a marine hardware store or an industrial heating and refrigeration supplier. Buy a piece of ceramic fiber blanket roughly 1" thick. You can cut and wrap this material around your new pipe for a custom fit. Also, buy some heat wrap tape (a cloth like material) to wrap over the blanket and hold it all together. Shouldn't cost you more than $10-$15 total. I used black iron pipe as a replacement per a diesel mechanic's experience / recommendation. Schedule 80 added more thickness than the original, should last for many years. Be sure to insulate well before running the engine as the heat from this pipe can melt stuff, start wood on fire if the pipe is close to other equipment, bulk heads, etc. Good luck!!
