These blocks were in the bottom of the sail bag with a Genoa I acquired. Where are they used? I've never had these before.

Those are snatch blocks which can serve various purposes. If they were in the genoa bag the PO might have used them to adjust the sheet lead forward or aft. It depends on how your boat is set up but the cheek at the upper part with the sheave can be opened up and put on the sheet while it is already run and the lower part with the shackle can be attached somewhere along the toe rail (again, depending on how your boat is set up).

You can search sailboat snatch blocks or something like that to get more info.

I assumed that was what it was for. That makes sense, the Genoa came from an s2 with aluminum toe rails. My catalina has tracks and cars for the jib sheet blocks.

Yep…the can clip onto the aluminum toe rail just about anywhere.

Snatch blocks are extraordinarily expensive. Take good care of them.

The side of block can open so the block can be attached to the middle of a line when the line is secured to a cleat at one end and the sail at the other. Handy if you want to change the lead of an active sheet.

Survey is done and the buyer is set to go ahead with the purchase of my boat, Trav'ler. I have had her 18 years. In my 50 years of boat ownership I have hit all but one port on L Michigan, and all ports I can get into on L Ontario. Also did the North Channel, Trent-Severn, and Georgian Bay. It has been a good run and caps 50 years of boat ownership for me. This is on top of 3 or 4 BVI charters, Belize, the Keys, and a return to the North Channel this past summer. It's been a good run, but I am hanging it up at 74. I just don't have the confidence in myself to go cruising anymore. Also, I am tired of working on boats. I have done virtually all my own work over the years and proud of that. I pretty much gave the boat away, but the new owner is excited and I think he will take good care of her.
