I am a new owner of a used boat, and just recently, I noticed that the plexiglass hatch is difficult to slide - is there something I can do to that will ease the sliding? Thanks

Silicone spray

I used silocone spray on mine and it works fine. It won't attract any dust. You can buy it at most hardware stores.

Depending on how old it is

the slider may have picked up gel coat deposits from years of sliding back and forth. I removed my slider and carefully scraped off the white deposits, followed by sanding with wet or dry 440 and then 800 and finally compound. Use a small block so as not to mar the surface where it is visible. When all clean, a good spray with silicone as stated previously will help.

I had the same issue only when the hatch was hot

Normally it was fine, but in the heat of the summer it would bind to the point I considered it a safety hazard. This spring I removed the slider and used a router to take about 1/16" off each side. No lube but it slides very easily now. The fit is not a precision requirement. An extra 1/8" of slop when cold is not a big deal.

Maybe this teflon tape

http://www.layline.com/prodinfo.asp?number=JTT Japanese Teflon Tape Imported all the way from Japan, this tape is great to use around your centerboard or daggerboard to keep it from slopping around. It has a sticky back on one side and a very smooth, slippery feel on the other. Sold by the foot. I haven't tried it yet, but was going to get some for my hatch. If you get it before me, let me know how it works, and I'll do the same. Kevin

ArmorAll™

We've had good results using ArmorAll on the sliders. About 10 seconds every couple of months gets 'em slidy again! Steve, Patti and Grace (Ship's Cat) sv "Ever After" Barrachois Harbour (Tatamagouche) NS Canada
