What should we do with a 100 year old sailboat? It's still floating, has great masts, great booms, the entire topside is in mint condition. However, below the waterline needs serious re-planking. We paid very little for it, but don't have the money to restore it. We don't want to sell it for scrap. The boat is beautiful, re-rigged with Bermuda sails prior to my purchase. I hate to see all the timbers and original mast go to waste. Any suggestions?

The boat is a 1910 Stone Reverie, a beautiful ketch and amazing sailboat in its day.

Also, does anyone know of a owner's association for Stone boats?

Maybe contact Good Old Boat or Wooden Boat about it - IIRC one of them does a segment with the goal of saving classic old boats and this seems like a candidate.

In newport RI they have a yacht restoration school where they teach folks how to restore old wooden boat. They may have an interest in this boat if it has historic value.

Sounds like quite a find.. although a quick Google didn't turn up much information on Stone sailboats. Care to post any pictures? How big is it? Were you aware of the water damage before purchasing? It would be a shame to see it go for scrap and a worthwhile project if you can figure out a way to make it happen!

Cheers,
Brad

None right now Cruiser Don't have on yet
Contact charliecobra, we have all seen his work with wood. He does a fantastic job and could possibly use the funds to get Oh Joy restored.

I'm open to restoring the boat if the OP wants that. Oops, just re-read the original post. Somebody needs to take this under their wing as the OP can't afford to restore it.

What a beautiful boat. PLEASE don't scrap it. If you can't fix it sell it to somebody that can.

Check with Spaulding Boatworks in Sausalito, Ca. They run a school and boat restoration center. Maybe they would be interested.

Attention everyone! I'm glad to say that after having a listing on craiglist for less than 24 hours this Reverie has a new owner. A capable young man with the woodworking, engine, restoration experience and funds to restore this vessel to a whole new level of beauty. Congratulations Jess! I am eager to follow his progress and I'll post pictures down the road to see his end results.
