What other interests do sailors have?

Recently told my (much younger than me) boss about an upcoming doctor appointment : " When you get to be my age you will have more doctors than friends!"
I am a retired G.M. guy and live in Michigan so sailing (alas) year-round is not an option. In the years before I retired I found an interest in skiing and sailing so I worked to make those two hobbies dove tail as the seasons changed. Sail all summer on the Great Lakes and ski all winter in Michigan and points west. I worked to become a certified ski instructor and work for two ski schools in my area. I also went to the Puget Sound area and got a couple of certifications for sailing to enhance my sailing experiences. For a while I upgraded my simple O'day 28 with lots of goodies and navigation items to make the boat more user friendly. Got everything but radar and at-sea television. So skiing in the winter and sailing in the summer is for me. Autumn and Spring are times of preparation for my two hobbies. I also enjoy a good cross word puzzle, a good book and time with my family.
My favorite answer:
"The planes we fly aren't that good!"
I've been jumping since the mid 80's also. I'm also a pilot. It's funny that a lot of aviation people are also drawn to sailing.
Ahhh. Bought a 1966 TR4A with IRS new when I discharged from the Navy. Sadly I traded it in for a new family car when I got married; a 1970 nine passenger VW bus. Tex. If you run out of space send one of them out west. One thing I don't have, yet. Been relying on my buddies. We trade tool use. I tend to be hand and long gun focused. Our range is extending to 1000 yards. Have used John Noslers range outside Bend. Way cool.
Other activities involve piano, golf, storm water community assistance, photography, landscape activities, cooking, and enjoying grandkids. Been told I'm a Renaissance man.
Motorcycles, airplanes (professional pilot), and guitars. Travel anywhere is usually a good thing.
As with anything, hobbies change with time. Past interests included: Scuba diving, fly tying, wind surfing, gold prospecting, mountain biking, rock crawling (Jeeps), geology, duck hunting, and skiing. Still do a little backpacking, upland game hunting and target shooting. Still love sailing, fishing (fly, trolling, bass) and camping.
Surfing… I've surfed since I was about 11 years old. I'm 67 now and still get out. Here's a picture taken a few months back:
To avoid being in the aircraft when it's landed by a rookie pilot...Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?
I think our concepts of "skydiving differ, but we both exited an aircraft in flight...
I did a lot of stupid stuff in a younger life. Now, I focus on farming, working on my Mac26S, and rebuilding my 67 Mustang Coupe.
