Dream Boat?????

I like our A-23. The cockpit is large enough to fit 6. The boat sleeps 5 and its paid for, and when I get a truck to haul it. I can take it anywhere. But if I won the lottery I would Like to have a Magregor 26m.

Phil,

How about just 1 boat to do both!! We can circumnavigate in comfort, and then trail her any place with a good road..... ;-)

Dreamboat? Let's see...40-50, in good shape, loves to be on the water....oh, wait, you meant dream boat, not Dreamboat, right?

Well, I do love my old, weathered O'Day Daysailor 1 (1986-88?), but mostly because it's so easy to take out on my own. If there were a partner in crime who loved to sail, however, I think a larger beauty would be in order. I was recently out on a friend's Catalina 32, which seemed easily manageable for two, but much more spacious than my sweet boat.

Okay, but dream boats... I think the Herreshoffs are all just beautiful.

Allied Princes. 35 ft shallow draft, full keel. Ketch rig...and I can pay cash for the boat. No more payments!!! Great blue water boat for 2 people.

My wife would want us to move to a 50-55 foot catamaran. Would have to research the one we would get if we ever win the lottery. It is complicated by the fact we rarely buy a ticket.

i guess ill chime in, it might not be just a dream for long, but i want a standard draft 33 cherubini hunter tricked out to the gills, enough solar panels to run an inverter that will power a window unit all night (plenty of house batteries obviously) or a dc airconditioner if thats possible, big beefy auto pilot with a good gps, and all lines (reefing included) run to the cockpit. other than that my dream boat is what im on when i get to leave the dock, life is just better on the water.

I just want one I can live the rest of my born days on, going where the wind takes me, catching my dinner and stopping off at exotic islands once in a while for some fruit so I don't get scurvy. Don't care if the diesel breaks down because I have no where I need to be. One that can cruise herself while I take a nap and of course has a 50 caliber machine gun so I can put a few across the bow of any pirates who get frisky. There needs to be a through hull valve attached to a remote EKG so when the old heart quits, she scuttles right there.

Dang, ya gotta like that.

Very interesting to read that many are satisfied with their current boat with perhaps a few changes. Not many saying they want a much larger one.

For myself, I like the different ones I have because they allow me to sail in different places. I have an O'Day 19 for trailering and quick setups; a Capri 22 that is moored and actively sailed that I can take back home at the end of the season; a Cape Dory 25 that my wife liked (stability for coastal cruising, classic style) but is still slowly being renovated since the Capri is on the water; recently got a Ranger 29 so I can have stand-up room in the cabin (another project boat). Project boats provide half the fun of ownership for me.

My dream boat would be a Nauticat 42 pilothouse sailboat. It’s a solidly built, bluewater boat, with a motion comfort value of 44. It should fit in a slip at most marinas, headroom is >6'2" in the galley, saloon, pilothouse, and aft cabin. Also, it's a good sailer with PHRF of 108. A lot of owners opt for the coveted washer&dryer. The N42 has a draft of 1.95m (6’5”) which is close to Nahum’s cutoff of 1.8m for losing 40% of Med anchorages. That pilothouse is an extra room with high visibility that would be sweet in cold or adverse weather.

I thought I was happy with my last boat, 30' Hunter. But after trading up to the H37C, I am much happier, since it can go anywhere as soon as I can. Not to say I would never trade up again, but this is a good boat.

We have no plans beyond our 37c. Great boat. Not as expensive as a 47 or 57 to slip or haul or bottom paint .

Every once in a while I found myself wondering which boat I would buy if I could comfortably afford any boat out there.

I think I've settled on the Tartan 4700. Of course I'd be off cruising the world with it!

What do you guys like? (no megas please).
ETA: Please post pics!
My dream boat is the Southerly 47. Great blue water boat that also looks good.
