So many people on this board are doers and not dreamers, doubt many will squarely participate, as they don't fit the question.
Bending the question a bit, my sailboat is my dream, a dream realized every time I see her, walk her decks, or come to forums like this to learn. My favorite sailboats are ketch rigs. My location has no big water, so my dream rig had to be trailerable. My local lake accepts boats for slips up to 32 feet. So I wanted a trailerable up to 30/32 feet. Not many sailboats fill that grocery list. Studying, I fell in love with William Crealock designs, and especially his still trailerable 30 and 32 foot coastal cruisers made by Clipper Marine.
My dream ketch sailboat, had an easier to come by little brother, a 30' sloop, that I tried to get several times, and kept missing them, due to flakey owners. One day as I was crying in my mt dew (beer is nasty) because I could not find a William Crealock 30, along lands in my lap, a William Crealock 32 ketch, the grail of trailerable WC CM designs. And it was free, if I purchased the trailer under her. A price reduced from $14,000.00 when she listed. Most people purchase 32' sailboats, then scramble to find a trailer. This deal was made in heaven. On top of the great deal, I found a uShip driver to go from LA CA to Nebraska for under 1.00 a mile, crossing deserts, plains, mountain peaks, for $1,300.00. Found a licenced, certified, respected surveyor for $200.00. He passed the boat two thumbs up. Every system passed, needing only a new mixing elbow, and cleaning. Tires on the trailer new three years ago, with zero wear and no UV damage. Survey was 100% accurate in every detail.
She belonged to a bank president that had deep pockets, so the sailboat was well maintained until it hit the hard three years, as he moved away. Lots of cleaning, and she looks almost like a new sailboat, time machined from the 70's. Spent $400.00 on a hull wet sand and waxing (passed on the $3,500.00 bid) and she went from my driveway to my slip in about six weeks.
I have my dream, as I always wanted just what I have. I have to little boys that share my dream of the great outdoors. One boy is named Sugar Bee, along with the sailboat (first time boat had been named, not her first dance, but she was still unmarried) and the younger brother's name, is of course, Clipper Marine, what else? Right?
Clipper, Sugar Bee and myself can't wait till spring so we can go sailing again, on our dream. (Wife hates sailing, so all this is her nightmare: )
